I do love my YNAb although it has the tendency to make me feel SO guilty... mainly because I don't allocate any spending money for myself and inevitably buy something for me and feel horrible when I see the pot go red because it hasn't been furnished with any spending money!!! ;)

But in terms of what it has done for me... I have been using it since June, and if you scrub out last year and start afresh this year, I have put away £125 towards line rental, £50 to home insurance, £250 to Xmas presents, £50 to Xmas food... and £1200 with another 300 to be added at the beginning of the month to my misc regular saver which will pay out next Jan at 6% :) everything has a job and I no longer feel guilty for dipping into 'savings' to pay an annual bill because despite being in a savings account and earning interest for me, it has a job. I have also learned to ignore the bank balance and focus on what is left in each category of spending which has been instrumental in me building up a buffer of £600 at the beginning of each month towards the following months bills. I hope soon the buffer becomes a full months worth :)

Definitely worth what I paid for it, but if I were you I would wait until June/July time as Steam offer it on sale for around the £7-8 mark instead of the £29 I paid!!!

Jelly has been a good girl for the last 2 days but is struggling with tummy issues. We had been rationing her raisin intake to 5 a day as it wasn't helping with her tummy issues, and MIL as always has to feed her as food and gifts are love, not time spent or actually playing :eyeroll: and her tummy has been terrible since she ate a whole tub of raisins whilst with MIL paying bills in town to keep her quiet :(

How has your day been? xx

  • I will wait til June/July then, and in the meantime watch some of the tutorials. My Dad is a compulsive feeder too, he definitely equates food with love, so despite him knowing that I'm trying to be good he'll buy doughnuts, chocolate etc all the time he's here. I do hope Jelly feels better soon.

I'm ok thanks, church this morning, then did LOADS of holiday let ironing, while jigging to Tiesto :p Just about to start dinner. Pork chops tonight.. Not the usual Sunday roast but a bit quicker! I've also spoken to another bride to be about flowers for a wedding next June :D it's not going to make me rich, but I do enjoy them.

    Today's OP: £18.12 :T

I think I would find flowers relaxing too :) but I am a bit ham fisted and gung-ho about it.. :D

Definitely wait. I have people watching Steam for me, and a list of people to tell so await my wanting clangers as it is a 24 hour sale! :D xx

I haven't got to grips with YNAB yet either stepup, despite buying it a couple of months ago. I am giving it a rest for a wee while until my head is in the right place to cope with it, but as Lilty said, the one thing it had changed for me is that I now have 'pots' of money saved for various things.
I have a household pot which I put £25 a month into, my car maintenance (including insurance, mot, tax etc.) one gets £75, birthdays & Christmas gets £60pm and the £462.50 monthly Childcare is paid into an e-saver then moved back when I have to pay it.
Before I had YNAB I always intended to save monthly for things but just shoved it all in one pot and it was invariably used up by the end of most months as it wasn't really clear what it was for. Now, I put it away and forget about it until I need to but something, then I can transfer the money back into the main account.
The same goes for my business earnings, they used to get swallowed up into my main account, but now they are separated and I have a 'float' sitting in there for when I need to purchase some materials or pay for postage. It has helped me greatly so far and hopefully, when I get my head around the day to day budgeting, it will prove financially life changing.

Hope that helps from another perspective.

  • Today's stepup skimmie is £9.28 to savings :D

Not a lot to report today; my spreadsheet is looking pretty good. I'm expecting a good sum from the holiday let this month, so am hoping to do a bumper OP at the end of the month. We'll see what happens between now and then! Got a spendy w/e coming up; DH's got relatives over from the US, and I'm cooking for them on Friday night, but we're all going out for Sat lunch, and then on Sunday we're taking my grandma out for her 85th. I've got the money set aside, so shouldn't impact on things too much.

Bootcamp tonight, so I'm a bit broken. The leg stuff I can do, and I  squats :o but I hate anything to do with arms, mine are so weak :( and today was all about arms.. I do wonder if they'll ever improve. Day 2 on no wheat/grains etc and feeling good though. Oh, and hayfever sucks!

    xx

I bought YNAB via Steam last July for £7.49 I think and ashamed to say I've not grasped it all :o. Still using my spreadsheets. But seeing how everyone is benefitting from it (and I am not potting annual bills ) I really ought to make some time to give it a proper go.

Bravo on Bootcamp, says me of weak legs and arms :rotfl:

Lunch with Grandma sounds lovely, hope she's keeping well. :)

Am sure she'll enjoy getting out, albeit it's hard work for them.

I know the slow walk :) When Mum was last here I closed the front door and put the key in it to re-open when she reached it. It's about 10 steps from car door to it but long enough to lose alot of heat from the house :o. Being MSE will never leave me :rotfl:

Mum about the same which is good news I would say given the pneumonia, but the weakness and weight loss are quite worrying. Baby steps all the way :)
