  • These 50 stretches are a nightmare with a calibrated speedo, especially when you're only allowed in lane 1; just trapped at 40-45mph.
Wide angle mirror does catch most things, but it can be hard to have a really good look when all the traffic's bunched up and the lanes are narrow and throwing you all over the place.

Exactly, it must be a nightmare with the operators licence obscuring your view too. Even if you have taken the tax disc out.
I presume the latter is for when you are in an accident - maybe you can avoid accidents by removing the tax disc holder so it opens up your view - I know it probably improves your vision by 1.5% or something. But every little helps. Perhaps it will prvent you from turning a cyclist into tomato sauce.

Tax disc is gone, but O licence is still sadly obscuring 0.03% of the screen :(

If you actually bothered to read the followup you'll see that I realised that I was not technically at fault.
Not technically at fault. Commonly known as refusing to accept you were at fault.

Not technically at fault but liable, I therefore agree with you comment.

Is that a conclusion by an independent expert or just your opinion, reading that thread it looks looks like a comedy of errors and you were 100% at fault and you even admitted it in one post.

Thank you for all the 'various' posts! AdrianC and Foxy... very good points especially about the sim card :-)
I am still awaiting the police to call me and then I shall contact the trucks insurance co. Will drag their heals though? I will still contact my insurance as well.... once I have a sim card! ;-)
I have also made a list of extra stuff that my car has ( not standard fittings ) hoping to add a little onto the payout... is this a possibility?
    Tow bar etc...that alone was £125 .
    Cheers again
any more information from anyone ..... ?

Be careful about any changes to the car like a tow bar that you have not notified the insurance about can give the insurance company a get out :):)

Chuff me, Izzy! I can believe what you say as everybody says the insurance firms will squirm n swivel to get out of paying up! But would the lorry insurance firm have any reason NOT to pay out for a tow bar etc?
My motor is/was a dark grey colour, hidden nr side of the artic , no 'streetlights' on this stretch so perhaps my car just 'merged' with the colour of road and sky and darkness.... anyways........
The police told me that the driver accepted he came across me even though he didnt know/feel he had touched me, the chip of red paint on my 'wrong-facing' wing mirror proves that he did.
I will call the lorry insurance firm tomorrow and keep you all informed what they say... I am still a little annoyed/confused as to this detachable tow bar detail though....
    Cheers
PS. I did not sneak-up on the inside either, Justin. My wing mirror was twisted with its back against my car FORWARD of my drivers window. The truck was going faster than me to force the mirror into that direction. If I had gone quicker than him and touched the truck, the mirror would have been mirror-side against my window. If you understand that gobbledegook!
