In the early 90's I was in court for speeding 50 in a 30 I was 22 yrs old. I was in a basic low paid job was fined £100 and 3 points.
On the same day in court was the case of a local MEP and landowner caught in the morning on the way North to a meeting and the same again in the late afternoon heading home. The sheriff court counted it as one offence and he was fined IIRC £60.
I am still miffed about it to this day. It was Kirkcudbright Sheriff court.0 -
There are certainly gantry cameras on the M90.
Intelligent Transport System
Phase 1 of the Forth Replacement Crossing project involved the upgrading of the M90 motorway between Healbeath Junction (J3) and Admiralty (J1). The existing southbound hard shoulder was adapted for use as a bus lane and overhead gantries were installed. These new gantries carry variable message signs which include the ability to set variable mandatory speed limits - an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). This is the first use of variable mandatory speed limits in Scotland. The new ITS was activated on 4th December 2012. Some of the new gantries carry speed cameras which are used to enforce the variable speed limits.
There has been a lot of discussion regards these type of cameras in the South of England.
Some folks say they are only operational when there is a limit less than 70mph.
Others say they can be operational to enforce the 70mph limit too.
Who knows?
I guess you're right about the ganty cameras being there, but the traffic, during the day at least, is nearly always so heavy between 3 and 1 that it would take a very determined effort to drive at 80 mph. I probably haven't paid any attention to them because I'm always well below the speed limit there. But I'm driving that way later today so I'll try to remember to look out for them.0 -
Agrinall that would be great if u could keep an eye out for them and if possible a rough number of how many and where they start would be amazing0

Stop worrying OP. An indicated 80 in a 70, which even in the most accurate cars will be 79 or lower, and then if the tyres aren't brand new for each revolution the distance covered will be smaller than a brand new tyre so your speedo will over read even more.0

I was quite surprised just how many gantries there are on the M90 between Halbeath and the Forth Road Bridge. However, only two of them are fitted with speed cameras, and they have camera warning signs on the gantries. It looks like the traffic management scheme is only in effect southbound as although the gantries cross both carriageways there's nothing on them on the northbound side apart from a few traffic cameras.0

Thanks for the info. 2 cameras isn't too bad0
