when i went on a speed awareness course :o there was someone on my table that had got caught 4 times in the one day by the same camera  they made the same journey and got caught on the way there and back both times

There were doing the course to avoid a ban as you can do the course instead of points meaning they were left with 9 points.

EDIT: sorry just read the posts that they don't offer the course in scotland :(

Which way did you go from Dundee to Edinburgh? There are no fixed cameras on the A90 between Dundee and Perth and none on the M90. I'm not aware that there are any gantry cameras on the A92, although there probably are some cameras at the side of the road, but you'd be hard pressed to maintain 80 mph for the full duration of that route.

Thanks, if 10 days from now iv not received any nips it'll be party time!
The problem is tho that the speed limit may have been less than 70, I can't remember if they were or not, I don't think I noticed any. As I said I'm fearing the worst, my hope is that there may be less than 4 of these cameras and therefore I won't reach a ban (I meant to say I have been driving 15 years and never had any penalty points, I doubt they'll make any difference but hopefully it might go in my favour were it to go to court)

Yes it was only 1 journey, I would be absolutely shocked if this made any difference but I fully admit I know nothing about this sort of stuff
  • mmcg,

you've obviously had a fright, so let's hope that's your punishment; especially as you are showing the right attitude.

There are certainly gantry cameras on the M90.

    Intelligent Transport System
Phase 1 of the Forth Replacement Crossing project involved the upgrading of the M90 motorway between Healbeath Junction (J3) and Admiralty (J1). The existing southbound hard shoulder was adapted for use as a bus lane and overhead gantries were installed. These new gantries carry variable message signs which include the ability to set variable mandatory speed limits - an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). This is the first use of variable mandatory speed limits in Scotland. The new ITS was activated on 4th December 2012. Some of the new gantries carry speed cameras which are used to enforce the variable speed limits.

There has been a lot of discussion regards these type of cameras in the South of England.

Some folks say they are only operational when there is a limit less than 70mph.

Others say they can be operational to enforce the 70mph limit too.

    Who knows?

It's that "some of the gantries" that I'm interested in if it's only 2 or 3 il be ok but if it's 4+ then I'm in trouble

Worry about it if it happens. As its in Scotland you've also got the option of not signing the Section 172 notice.

80mph on my speedo is nearer 73mph sat nav on my Volvo, interestingly though when I reset my average speed on the computer and let it recalculate it said 73mph, so the car DOES know what speed you are doing!!!
