Possible 12 points on 1 drive, any chance of avoiding ban?

Hi all

It is possible I may have been caught speeding multiple times on 1 journey. I was driving from Aberdeen to Edinburgh and sat at 70 the whole way however between Dundee and Edinburgh I was going faster (bang on 80) I have just found out there are multiple gantry cameras on that stretch of road, I do not know how many there are but I can only assume I was caught by all of them. My question is would you have any chance of avoiding a ban based on the fact they were all within about 30 mins of each other (I know probably unlikely), also my reason for speeding was to visit a terminally ill friend in hospital who subsequently died the next day (while this no doubt sounds like a sob story it is true and could be proven if required) is there any chance a judge may take this into consideration and reduce the punishment to for example 9 points and a fine?
I am worried sick here as a ban would destroy us, I also accept this is my own stupidity

If you didn't slow down between them it's only 1 offence of speeding.

Hi thanks for the reply, they are not average cameras, the are all individual fixed cameras (part of an intelligent transport system that introduces variable speed limits) so I assume each occurrence of speeding through them is a separate offence?

Not necessarily providing there was no change in the posted limits.

Wait until you get one or multiple nips and take it from there. Anything else is speculation until then.
  • Were they showing lower limits than 70? If not, you should, and I emphasise, should, be okay as speedos overread and the cameras only work when the limit is less than 70.

I would put a sarcastic "lesson learned?" here, but my wife is from Fife so I understand why you would want out fast!

Don't suppose it's a real old car that over reads by 10%?
Loads of people have more than 12 points and still have a licence, also who's to say all cameras were working.
80 isn't crime of the century, may not have been set that low.
    Good luck with it.
  • Of course, if you had stuck to the speed limit, you would have no worries..

Thanks very much for the positive replies. To be honest I do not know if they were displaying a reduced speed limit. I am absolutely raging with myself as I sat with the cruise control at 70 the whole may from Aberdeen as I know how notorious the road is, once I was by Dundee tho I thought I free of them, the roads were relatively clear so I went a bit faster.
I know it's just speculation the now but I'm fearing the worst I was definitely doing 80 for a decent stretch of that road. Does anyone know how many cameras are on it? Iv tried googling it but cannot find out

Was this 80 on the speedo or 80 on the Sat-Nav?

Do you know how fast you were really going?

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, but if you intend going to court (Kinross Sheriff Court more than likely) and plead those mitigating circumstances, I don't think it would cut much ice with whoever is hearing the cases that day.

I wouldn't worry about it, really! I often drive between Dundee and Edinburgh at well over 70 - never had a problem.
