  • Congrats on the move, that's brilliant, bet it feels amazing to be all moved in?

With emergency funds I just have enough to pay all bills and basics for a year, unless by a miracle I start to get more interest on savings the I'm paying for the mortgage. Then I'll stop OPing and save instead :)
  • AFK thank you :] or Carole V hehe

If i did it like that which i may do some weeks it would be around £3000 hehe as i got 1.5k for the other car + around 1000 fuel saving + 250 tax saving slightly cheaper insurance

I think i only need about 10-12k for an EF so the extra i have over this i could OP But i need to work out how much Things are per month and make sure i have a year and half of saving in ef I Need to do this tonight

Talking about fuel the new car came with over half a tank 300+ miles this is about 2 weeks for me so thats nice :]

    selloptape

Ya it feels great now still loads of small things to do + garden/garage but that will be next year now

Ya i think my EF is overkill currently and i think 10-12k is enough but i need to find out whats going on with my payment on account for jan then ill know how much i have :]

    Little update from me

    House news
Well its been a week or so now since iv been fully moved in :]

House is much bigger than i relised when i was working here i spend 70% of my time in the office either working or just surfing the net watching tv ect

Iv never been a sit down on the sofa kinda guy

As its a 3 bed semi with attic space and conservatory kitchen living room and dining room and a really nice hallway

Anyway id rather have to much space than not enough :]

    Mortgage news

Im Hoping to make a over payment to bring me under the 65k mark this month
As my payment on account is less than i thought it was so will overpay half of what ever i save :]

Target then will be to get under 60k next year if possible

Fab to hear you had a great first Christmas in your man-pad :D

Do you not need planning permission or building regs for the new garage? Think a friend needed just the latter for his. If you can do it for £3k that's fantastic. I'm guessing you've alot of DIY digging ahead for footings :D

Great savings on the car already...can see you beating that £300 a month OP quite safely :)

    Thank you ali :]

Man pad kid pad currently with all the toys everywhere haha

If its 30 square meters or under you dont need any planning permission and as long as its not to high

Ya i'll be doing the footing and base myself but get someone in to to the walls roof and door

If i can get someone to do it all tho for 2-3k ish id happily just let them get on with it maby the door may not be in that price tho

If you can imagine a semi i currently have a car port to the side with a old coal shed and a gate to go round the back plan is to knock the coal shed down build the garage at the back so you can drive down the side of my house thro some gates to the garage at the back not many houses have garages in my area so can only add value and desirability to my house

Ya what i save in fuel i will add to EF as the weeks go by :]

Im looking forward to putting in £40 tho to see how many miles it gets me as before was only 200 miles i rekon its around 400-500 now which is crazy

Gotcha on the garage and where it will go and agree on value and more desirable. Parents house had an old coal bunker...was in use for first few years we lived there and that was a new build! Showing my age now :rotfl:

Excellent mpg too, makes a big difference on the fuel spend and liking what you're going to do with the savings :D

Who gets the job of clearing the toys up?! One bonus as they get older and into gadgets is a smaller pile. DS voluntarily put his stocking bits away yesterday...now that's a first!

Love you have a great Christmas in new place. And lovely neighbours are wonderful to have (am still wishing ours who are not so lovely would move!)
And our house has a coal bunker we use :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
