  • You are doing fantastic luckyinlife! You come across as a very enthusiastic, positive, and optimistic person, it's a pleasure to read along :)

I agree with Ed, you could make a bit more on your tax/emergency fund by sticking it in a few good high interest paying current accounts. If you want to keep things simple and just have the one account, santander 123 pays 3% on between 3k and 20k, and the cashback for paying a few standard bills should easily cover the £2 a month fee :)
even if i send in £200 OP i have to send in proof of funds so for the sake of the hassle ill wait till i got a nice amount ie over £500 each time. When i remortgage i will be getting a bank account to go with it lol

What does this mean? Are you planning on having your main bank account and mortgage with the same institution or have I got the wrong impression? Is there anything stopping you from opening an account with your mortgage provider? I know that some mortgage companies don't offer bank accounts, but just worth a mention as some people think they can only have one current account and since they don't want to switch they can't have an account with their provider, but you can keep your existing account and open another no problem... Some of us are well into double digit current accounts by now :D

Are you sure that an ISA is the best home for the EF? Rates are pretty dire atm.

Hi edinburgher ya the isa is very poor i do admit i am going to move it within the next few weeks now to somthing a bit better currently its easy access i like

I am however thinking of putting 7-8k of it away in a fixed account for 2-3 years and rebuild a new pot but

You have any good suggestions where to stick it ?

    Lucky, great read!

Quick query - how do you put photo's on your diary?
    MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......

Ah, I see, they are stuck in the dark ages, along with my own mortgage provider! I would love to see my balance online, but that is way down the list of priorities - rate, flexibility, fees, I think that's the stuff that really matters when shopping for a mortgage :)

Is it not possible to OP by online bank transfer? Tracking the balance could be done by spreadsheet, meaning no need to call them, saving you time and money :)

Ya kinda the same with me till my house is 100% finished and furniture is in i dont wanna be swapping money around and then need some for something once im in im going to have a bill account and a daily account and change stuff around :]

I dont mind the fact i have to ring up to pay but the fact i have to send them details of where the money come from via the post i have to
    ring them
    pay the OP
Then send them evidence of where it came from ie work and a bank statement

So instead of me doing a over payment each month wich i get charged 3% anyway i am going to save into my own over payment account and pay off when i feel fit i guess as it a 8-10 year plan im aiming for chucking everything at it now will just make things a bit tighter my end for the next 3/4 months
