    Hi,

Mainly because of work, I want to ensure I can provide the readings as required.

I thought when you switch energy suppliers, i thought new supplier is responsible for contacting old supplier and dealing with the transfer etc and that the old supplier would just contact me advising how much I owed themor they owed me? Do I need to contact my existing supplier too? Do zog inform my exising supplier of meter readings or do I need to do that?

I'm currently on BG standard tarrif so no tie in, can move any time, fee to pay etc... I just been waiting to get annual statement to have an idea of usage and got that in December so been looking over the markets on and off trying to decide who to go with.

My only concern with Zog is no phone number so if any problems, i'm soley relying on email and what if the company folds etc...

From all the reviews i've read it seems they are pretty good and have been goign I thik 3-4 years? so due to the lack of issues and most people being happy with them, i'm pretty sure i'll give them a go, probably sign up for the 24 month tarrif as most energy companies putting prices up, might be an idea to lock in now for 2 years and hopefully benefit from it. Also I read on here I think someone said zog were looking to also supply electricity in 2018/19 so maybe they will do it by the time my term expires and hopefully i can go wit them for both.
Just need to contact them and find out what my monthly payments will be as I read somewhere they will charge a bit more if sign up in winter months to ensure you don't go into a negative after short time with them.

Was hoping to get smart meter with BG but i been on the register your interest list now for 6 months and no sign of it so i think i'll forget about that and wait till the new meters come out whereby they not limited to that supplier only etc. Like the idea of it submitting readings automatically plus the ability to monitor usage etc.

I'm currently thinking I will go with SSE for electricity, prices are not too bad for me,

You are worrying over nothing. The new supplier manages all aspects of the switch. Just before the day that your supply transfers to them, Zog will ask you to read your meter. The reading that you provide will be verified and used to open your Zog account. Your old supplier will use the same reading to close your account and raise your Final Bill.

Zog doesn't have a telephone number because you will not need to speak to them. Their e-mail response to any questions is in minutes not hours.

OK - they do not have an online account and they will expect you to submit a meter reading online once per month. You will get a statement e-mailed to you in a few days.

Zog doesn't yet offer smart meters. They will do so in the course of the next few years. You should have no concerns about switching to them.

  • I signed up with them very recently. My switchover was flawless and, as others have stated, their response to emails is quick and friendly. In light of the recent drop in gas prices, I just wish I'd chosen a plan with no exit fee!

    Hi,

Thanks @Hengus. I filled out the form today and I received a welcome email saying they will perform some initial checks and effectively get back to me to confirm things.

I also applied to switch my electricity, did that one first over the phone so i got the idea of what info I could be asked as figured it would be the same and it pretty much was.

So I've chosen 26 March for the switch over date so I can ensure i'm around to provide reading. Zog didn't mention how much Direct Debit will be for but I did do a quote online for my useage so fingers crossed its the same. For SEE they rounded it up to the next pound as I asked why it was different but they only do whole figures as direct debit, wondering if Zog will be the same but waiting to hear further, not sur if they work weekends of the email is automated.

Signed up to 24 months, hopefully if Zog prove to be as good as i've read, which I have no doubt they will be, hopefully they will be providing electricity and good rates and I can have both with this company :)

Thanks all for your help with this. Taken me a while as being new to all this to finally pull the trigger :)

Excellent. You will not be disappointed with Zog but do make sure that you give them regular meter readings. I used to do one on the last day of each month.

Just remember your first direct debit is in advance and taken about 15 days down the line. But Zog can and do do odd direct debit figures if that's what they decide.

Many system emails are automated, I get quite a bit of correspondence from them with a 4am timestamp :)

Thanks @Neil Jones, Is that 15 days after application? At present I've not heard anymore from Zog, hopefully will hear during the week. They haven't said what my direct debit will yet, I only have the quote I did as a guide, fingers crossed it is accurate :)

Hopefully between switching my gas and electricty, I can save around £130/year :)

    Quick update:

Got a email today with details of the tarrif and that they will take first payment on the day the switch takes place (26th march), They have rounded the direct debit up it seems which is ok, still cheaper than my current supply, I am guessing if I do end up in credit, I can request the money back but I'm not worrying about this now, i'm guessing either they will adjust the DD to suit or refund me.

Seems ok so far, I guess now I wont hear until a few days before the switch when they request a meter reading.

Does anyone know if a meter reading needs to be provided on a week day or can I supply on a Saturday or on the actual switch day (Sunday) as i'm not sure anyone is there on a weekend to process it etc and so they might want to supply the reading to BG on Friday as opposed to after the switch on a Monday.

    Thanks

Provide it on the day of the planned transfer if you can. Come what may it will go to the Data Collectors to be verified and you may find that Zog and your old supplier will use a verified/estimated reading to open and close your accounts. Any difference will be in pence.

I am not sure that it matters whether there is anyone there or not. They will just pass it on to the verification party as soon as...
