At least I've kept copies of all my bills and controlled my DD's so we are around £100 in credit at the moment, going down rapidly as we are using more energy because it's getting colder. I've also got six years worth of meter readings, so I know where we are and where we should bereagding consumption and payments.

We've now cancelled the DD so there's about a month's worth of credit to be dissipated during the swap over. We'll be putting the DD money aside so we've still got it available.

This will be a test for OFGEM to see how well the situation gets handled and how we customers get treated. Hopefully, fairly and not taken advantage of an expeditiously, as we dont want it dragging on for weeks or even months.

For us, £100 isn't a kings ransom but for many it will be a real blow, especially at this time of year when all our heating and energy bills are at their highest.

Come on OFGEM, show us how it should be done if you wnat us to keep faith

I had assumed that the "Supplier of last resort" would be whichever of the big firms gave ofgem the [STRIKE]biggest "incentive"[/STRIKE] best guarantee to protect us

Wouldn't it be funny if it were a new company, called "UK Energy Supply" operating from a building site in Preston, charging double GB Energy's prices :rotfl::rotfl:

I highly doubt the credit balances with vanish as all eyes are on Ofgem and a number of other rather vocal parties are watching the situation develop too who won't think twice to let rip if they tried to pull that stunt. Personally I'm unconcerned about my £100 or so credit on my account but I can understand how those people on low incomes might be flapping a bit.

Given that GBES no longer exist, would it be prudent to cancel to DD then, or ?

I did last night as soon as I read that they had gone bust although Martin Lewis is recommending that you don't do anything yet.

  • We are in credit for a few hundred pounds and have always been pleased with the price and service for GB energy, however recently they have asked for meter readings more frequently I believe. What will happen now????

Hmm, as my account is in credit by some margin I don't think there's any harm in cancelling it until Ofgem and the new provider get organised. Could potentially prove to be a wise decision if the handling of the credit balances gets messy or is unduly delayed. YMMV..
