Hengus, it was GB's very slow method of returning the significant amount of cash they had in my account and sorting out new direct debits - nothing to do with edf. Sorry if I did not make clear the problem of changeover.
MSE have an article on that :)

The article suggests 8 weeks maximum, but once the final bill has been produced, they could be on a sticky wicket it it takes longer than 2 weeks (as that is what time I would give in an LBA). Alternatively the 8 wekks could get you to the ombudsman if you prefer that route (and you are quick off the mark)

Edit: hang on - do I understand you still had your electric with them?
In which case it's a different process, and the supplier may just elect to reduce your monthly DD instead ... unless you really want to be inistant, in which case the question would be why did you let the account accrue so much credit in the first place.

The losing supplier has to use reasonable efforts to produce a final bill within 6 weeks from the date that the switch went through. Consumers may not be aware that all readings go through a third party for validation which may result in a supplier dispute. Moreover, any gas switches involving an IGT can - according to Ovo - take 12 weeks. None of this helps the customer who just wants his/her money back. Sadly, the energy sector has yet to amend its behind-the-scenes procedures to match the target of 17 day switching.

  • I have just switched and everything has gone smoothly with lots of friendly emails from GB energy. My monthly DD has dropped and I should save around £200 per annum. I was with Southern Gas for my electricity and Southern Electricity for my gas. The Southern Gas company said they were sorry to see me go but didn't offer any incentive to do so. I have heard nothing from the Electricity people. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly from now on. Thank you to MSE for the comparison.

Unlike companies like Sky, energy companies are not allowed to make offers or do deals.

  • Saturday the 13th arrived and was the day of my switch. Tried and failed to enter my meter readings through the 'my account' section on the website so had to submit via the online submission form. Didn't hear anything for four days and the website is very limited once you do manage to log in so I decided to call them. The gas reading had gone through but there was a problem with the electric so I gave that over the phone.

The first DD has gone out and previous supplier Ovo have been in contact regarding our refund so we now are officially being supplied by GB Energy.

It's taken a lot of phone calls but we are finally there!
  • Was very weary about moving to a small supplier due the the perceived lack of customer service, took the plunge and Moved to GB Energy in December last year from EDF. Everything went very smoothly and took just over a month to complete. First direct debit went out before completion which is as they advise. Very easy to enter meter readings on their website and they send reminder emails a week before the bill is produced. Can't fault them.

My switch is supposed to happen today. This morning I get two emails requesting meter readings. However, they still haven't sent me any login details so on the phone I go.

Have to say they helpdesk people always seem pretty switched-on and helpful, I think their system might be a tad flaky though.
I've had to give them my details three times so far and their initial estimate of my DD has dropped from £140 (Probably about right) to £66 (well, that won't work!) to £120 (Fair enough).

Anyhoo - they took my meter readings over the phone fine and another attempt at getting access to the website is in progress, apparently it has to go via 'head office' wherever that might be.

Can't comment on the website as I haven't seen it yet.

This is in cheap price. Wondering how gb gas gets in this lowest price. I don't know how you appreciate this.

Wondering how to make any sense of this post, I looked up the domain registration for the user name. Nominet reports it as trading as SKYRXSHOP, which in turn is a website "offering generic medications produced in India".
    Good old spam. :)

  • I recently switched to GB energy and to be honest I've found them very good. No issues with the switch and my first bill was correct. Just saving money now ! ditch the expensive big five and give companies like this a chance to save you money also.
  • Very worried about this company. We switched on the 4th Feb and our first direct debit was taken, but we were then told our gas would not be changed over until the 23rd Feb, we were reassured our account would be debited as we had not had gas for this period. After checking this with them yesterday they now say we will get a final bill from our old supplier which we had expected, but did not expect to be charged by them too. They have not replied to my last email, I added a post to facebook but it instantly vanished. I have contacted them on twitter where their account only has 20 tweets, all complaints in the last few days, where have all their other messages gone? Seriously worried that we have changed to this company.
