Many congrats on massive OP - what an achievement! Really interesting reading about AirBNB. My OH works in London a lot and pays a fortune commuting. We have often wondered about him staying up in town but everything is so expensive. This may be an affordable way around it, if he is up for a couple of nights. Will investigate further :)

  • Hi friends,

How is everyone doing? Thank you all so so much for your kind and inspiring comments, it really is lovely to log on and read them all. I haven't been online as much as I would have liked these past few days, family life and work have been pretty hectic so iPad time has been limited!

Not a great deal to report here. Our lovely Air BnB guest is here with us this week, and we have another lady booked in this weekend. For anyone considering Air BnB I would strongly recommend giving it a try - just do it once and if you don't like it you can withdraw your listing. I was very sceptical and unsure as to how I would feel having someone in my home but it really is absolutely fine for us and I am so pleased we are doing it - it really does help to bump up the savings!

Hoping to earn a decent wage this week to bump the savings up a bit. Take care all, wrap up from this horrid wind and rain xx

    Hi ATB,

Hope you don't mind me asking - do you need any special insurance, or is it as if they're a guest in your house? I'm really curious about this - thinking I could offer my son's room on Airbnb when he's at his dads, not sure if I'd want to do it whilst he's here, just in case of any oddballs!

    :) x

Sorry for hijacking but I just put my flat up on airbnb and the listing comes with an up to 600k guarantee by the company in case anything goes wrong. You can also choose the added security of only accepting guests that have had their ID verified by the website as well. I'm so excited to give this a go and I actually ended up getting 4 nights booked in the first day I put my flat up on the website! :j

What is this madness! £26k in 9 months!! Do you have a breakdown of where the £26k comes from (e.g. salary/airbnb/other stuff)?
I guess given how busy your bnb is you live in London or somewhere touristy? What kind of rate do you charge & I guess you still live there and rent a spare room?
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)
  • Hi Selloptape - as Petal says the insurance is done via Air BnB :) Best of luck with it if you do decide to give it a go :)Petal that's awesome news about your booking :)

Lots of questions Dird! In summary - nope, we don't live in London we live ooop Noorrf, nowhere fancy or touristy! All of our guests bar one so far have been in the area for work. And yes, we rent out our spare bedroom whilst still living here :) If you have a gander through my diary you will see our OPs are made up of income, savings, Air BnB, ebay sales and sheer micro-management of our funds. No complete breakdown of how much we have contributed to the OP pot from each source (to keep track of that would probably give me a breakdown!).

Team ATB thrives on challenges, aims and goals - and sheer bl00dy mindedness at times :):)

    Best wishes all, ATB xx
