ATB's £171k quest begins.... NOW!

Hope the psychological kick in the butt works - I blame winter-y/dark weather for my doldrums.
Does it help to think of it in mortgage terms at all? We're refinancing next month for a 5-year fixed and my goal is to not have to make any payments once that ends. I think you're on a shorter term (but similar timescale), so does thinking about it as 2 more fix deals (assuming a 2-year and a 3-year fix) help feel like a shorter timeframe?
Either way, you're way ahead of the game. I'm 5 years ahead of you age-wise but 20k behind mortgage-balance wise. (Up to a year behind goal-wise, depending on when in 2020 you plan to be MF, we'll just squeak by in December.)

You're way, way ahead of the game, ATB! Just looking at those figures in your sig should have you bouncing off the ceiling
hiddenshadow, you're doing really well too, I think anybody who overpays and sticks with it is a winner.

I had those "its a long way to go moments too" when it seemed pointless - but - you've come a long way. And, if it was easy everyone would have done it!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Hi friends :hello:
How is everyone? I just lost a long post  so in summary:
- The usual mortgage payment has gone out, so we are just under £144k
- we are booked solidly on air BnB for the next ten days
- I can't wait to get into 2016 and stuck into overpaying again! The savings are still looking good so we hope to OP £5k immediately in January when the new limit kicks in
I hope you are all well, we are looking forward to seeing our balance drop significantly in 2016 and getting back to daily OPs. We are looking forward to the big Ho Ho Ho first! :xmastree::xmastree::xmassmile:xmassmile
Best wishes, ATB xx:):)MFW

ATB, you must have tapped into a huge market, its brilliant - you're having to share your home, of course, but its really excellent that you're getting all this dosh in
On the subject of posts - if I write anything longer than a couple of sentences, I copy it before I post it - bit of a faff, but not compared to losing it!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
ATB you have done so brilliantly and should be so proud of yourself. I know what you mean though about not being able to OP directly. We have the same problem until around March/April next year when we can remortgage. Even though the balance is decreasing, it's not the same as being able to see it decrease. However, it is going in the right direction. Onwards and upwardsStarting Mortgage 01.08.08 £171,209.24.
