I can definitely see that, and in the hypothetical case where I was going to do anything like this, I would now be looking at not making physical contact with the Camera or its stand.

I wonder about a protest demonstration around a camera site in which the protester(s) were carrying particularly large placards.

If it's hypothetical then just cut it down, there's no offence as it would only capture darkamtter in an imaginary car.

To be fair, I did make it clear it was hypothetical at the outset.

I can imagine cutting one down being quite tricky.

    Hmmm... I'm not convinced.

(unless you're of the view that speed cameras are inherently useless and evil of course, but no court is going to take that view)

I'm also not convinced, but I do think there's enough of an argument to be had along those lines to prevent it being a slam-dunk for the prosecution.

As for no court taking that view, they may not admit to it ;)

Also, depending on what the estimated value of the alleged damage was (estimated loss of ticket revenue? cost of someone removing the bag?) you could always do several of them to push the total damage over £5k, then elect for trial at Crown Court - a jury may be significantly more sympathetic than a magistrate :D

That's an interesting point. I was thinking that notional lost ticket revenue would be outside the scope of the "cost" of the Criminal Damage.
