At least you checked! Every cloud has a silver lining, as they say. (BTW, I checked my account and everything is OK.)

  • Anyone had any more luck on this?

I had my second letter saying they need another 28 days to investigate it, so have until the 21st Sept.
  • Still no acknowledgement, reply or cheque. The FOS' required 8 weeks from my original request (24/7) is 18/9.

  • Hi everyone, first post so please be gentle...

I've just been on the phone to MS to ask why the 3% cashback had not been applied to my August statement, as last month they assured me that it would be.

They seem to be using a new excuse now: They said that as the 3% bonus rate was a promotional one, it has to be cleared through the financial services ombudsman (?what?), and this is what is causing the delay in updating their IT systems. They could give no estimate of when it might be fixed.

Sounds like a load of bunkum to me - surely an ombudsman only gets involved in issues <after> the event. Even if the CS chap was mistaken, and actually meant the FSA, what the heck would the FSA be doing approving CC companies' promo deals?

Anyone else been spun this line?
  • The bit about the system problem, which only shows the cashback at the standard 1% has been consistent, so is probably accurate.

However, my argument is that this has gone on for long enough to either be fixed, or for a workaround. I see no reason why they cannot issue the cheques and account for these manually until the system is fixed.

I don't know where they got the FO or FSA from, although most of us have been threatening them with the FO, if they don't cough up.

  • Success!!! Kind of...

I would quote the whole letter, but it would take forever. Basically blabs on a bit about it being a technical problem and he's raised it with the "Business Technology Department" etc etc...

But it says "As a one off gesture of goodwill I have credited your account with £45 to cover the Cashback Bonus you would have accrued"

Now if my calculations are correct, 3% of the first £2000 would be £60, then 1.5% for the remainder which for me worked out to be £22.17 and since then I've been getting the 0.5% which works out to be about £7. My current cashback is about £43, so plus this £45 (that's just being knocked off my account rather than being added to the cashback award thing which is a bit annoying...) works out to be nearly £90 which makes it about right!

As soon as my cashback award is up to £45 i'm cashing out and switching!
  • Interesting. At least something seems to be happening.

Not too sure about the credit onto the account, though. I was planning to close the account (I switched to the Cap1 4% card and have already applied for the Abbey 5% one!) and my balance is zero.

Just received letter acknowledging problems with 3% cashback and says that a fix will be implemented s that my account shows the correct cashback amount . They state 'I can confirm the statement will confirm when the problem has been resolved'. No mention of dates for resolution! Is it me or is this too open-ended? They say they're going to fix it but don't say when! Maybe I'm not giving them the benefit of doubt but I'm tired of this!
  • I'm surprised they didn't give you a credit on your bill like me. I had to ring them up yesterday to "remind" them of this though! Got it credited today £45 "credit adjustment"

I called up last night and I was told that someone from the 'cashback department' would ring me back. That's the best they could do!

How pathetic are these people? Frankly, I can't be bothered to chase them up even for £10 (what should be £30)!! Shall I just close the account?
