Well some device is downloading without me clicking anything, hope its from 1st link you gave...... im not sure laptop is windows 8.1 now as it started as 8 when brought.

I wonder if its worth making an image of your CURRENT system (to avoid the lengthy process you have just gone through). This is more of an open question to others as I don't have a "solution for all situations". However this guide may be useful

It says windows 8 now. think what you posed looks beyond me! I do have a back up/recover memory stick made when I brought laptop.

Yes am ok with windows 8.

IE just crashed again and said it had shut webpage for security or something?
