Troubleshooting cant identify the problem, tried moving the cable no good.
While looking at the Network Conenctions screen, if you unplug the cable at the laptop and then plug it in does the laptop make any noises? Does the screen change?

EDIT: what model hub is it? tell us what lights are on/off and colour; what model hub is it? does the cable make any difference to the lights?

I assume connected to the hub. So the hub's ok. Ethernet broken? I doubt it.

We could have a look at wifi but my guess is a common problem. In Network Connections, select the Wireless Network Connection You said it was on. Double-left-mouse click it. What does the dialogur say? (or do a screen print of the dialogue).

I guess the private/public troubleshooter will confirm your private settings.
PS. on the Network and Sharing Center screen (where it says private) did you run the Troubleshoot Problems then Internet Connections ?
