Unreal.
I don't understand this selfish mentality. I can understand it a bit more if someone is taking advantage of a big faceless company (which still doesn't make it right) but to do it to your friends and colleagues? It beggars belief.:happylove0 -

Nail on head!!
I have never gone out with people expecting them to subsidise me, regardless of how little or how much I order.
Regardless of whether it's an expensive starter, main, dessert and multiple soft drinks or a single main and table water, I have always paid more than my way.
Rounding up the £4.95 to £5, the £12.95 to £15, rounding up the final to the nearest £5 or £10 and then more for the tip if the service was good.
When the self appointed banker counts all the money that's been shoved at her, to be told that there isn't enough to cover the bill, let alone a good tip, it's an awful realisation that one or more of your so called friends, colleagues or family are scroungers, expecting to hide their scuttery amongst the flurry of bank notes and coins.
It takes the shine off what was, up until then, an enjoyable evening and makes me reluctant to go out with them again. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I recently took my dad out for a milestone birthday along with a couple who have been lifelong family friends, so there was me and partner, my parents and the other couple (6 of us). The lady from the other couple works in a salon and everyone working there had known we were going to this posh restaurant as my dad pops in to visit her and her husband at their salon often and had spoken about it. Anyway, on the evening in question, one of the junior stylists just so happened to be dining in the same restaurant with her boyfriend. She made a point of coming over and introducing her OH to everyone and then sat on the table next to us and at some point in the evening the waiter must have joined their table to ours. Anyway, as the night comes to an end they left early as lived a fair distance away and then later on I ask for the bill. Waiter asks if there was a problem when he sees the look on my face and when I explained that it was supposed to be 2 separate bills and didn't she already settle her one, he stated that when she went to the bar to first order drinks, she said to add the tab onto our table as we were one party!
They had both ordered the most expensive cuts of steak and by the end of the night had proceeded to put away 20 JD and Cokes between them and a bottle of wine. Since my OH was driving and neither my parents nor the other couple drink alcohol, our bill came to just under £200 for us 6; hers was £300 drinks and £100 food.
The lady from the couple was so incensed that her employee had blatantly taken the mick she insisted on paying the girl’s portion of the bill and the following day called me and told me that when she turned up for work she told her she would have to pay the money back out of her wages.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I dont know what amazes me the most, someone could actually drink 20 JD and cokes and a bottle of wine or still stay standing or that 20 JD and cokes and a bottle of wine cost £300 posh restaurant or not.0 -
My brother's IOU towards a funeral wreath never materialised.
For my dad's milestone birthday, my sister suggested an excellent gift at quite modest cost split between the 3 of us. As expected, bro refused to chip in and bought a cheap token gift of his own instead.
The last time i travelled down from scotland at great expense by train for a planned xmas family meal, my brother refused to come because we didnt book his suggested venue at a later sitting time (it wasnt toddler friendly).
I think that was the same year his xmas present to me was the gift i gave him the year before.
Anyway, i then decided to abandon this tradition since it takes around 5 hours to get there and over £100 in trainfare just to get stood up.
So he texts me to demand to know why i have 'abandoned' the family...,
You cant make this stuff up.0
