The existing account is flexplus and the new one is flex. I'm not sure if it would work to open a new account of a type you already have but there are 3 choices anyway flex plus and direct

Thank you for your info
Could you please elaborate how you combine TCB with referral ?
I have read this
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/products/current-accounts/landing-page/recommend-a-friend
and this
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4007993
But I do not understand how could you apply from TCB if you will need to apply via linked sent by email instead of the link from TCB ???
I already have and still have a flex account, but I have not had Flex direct account. One of the person here are saying

"Referees must not have held a Nationwide account for 3 months prior to the referral"
Is this statement true ?? Could I still refer someone while still holding a flex account ??0 -
There is no link or email sent by Nationwide to the new customer, ie the one being referred.
The person referring gets an email saying "thanks for recommending us". They then let the new customer know they're good to go (through the cashback site).0 -

Referee is the friend, you are a referrer!
Anyway that's old information and out of date.
In your first link under Any questions Q5 gives the info you want.:)0 -
Hi,
I recommend a friend to Nationwide - Transfer was completed last month and according to the terms and conditions incentive should have been paid by the 20th May. Nothing has arrived so I send them a secure message and got the following reply:-
I have been in contact with our Refer a Friend team regarding your recent query. They have confirmed the reason why the £50.00 hasn't been received was due to breaching the terms and conditions. Back in 2014 Mrs XXXXXXX had received £50.00 for switching her main banking to Nationwide. Due to the terms and conditions, the £50.00 incentive cannot be given a second time.
Terms and conditions are:-
1.This offer is only available to our existing current account customers (excluding our employees) who hold either a FlexAccount, FlexDirect or FlexPlus Account. Cash Card and FlexOne account holders are not eligible for this offer.
2.If you hold any current account with us that is being managed by our Recovery Department you will not be eligible for this offer.
3. Recommendations must be made using the online form at nationwide.co.uk/recommend.
4.We will credit your current account with £50 for each person you recommend to us on or after 3rd February 2014 who completes a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service to switch a current account with another provider to a Nationwide current account (excluding Cash Card or FlexOne accounts).
5. A minimum of two Direct Debits must be transferred as part of their switch.
6.Your account will be credited by the 20th day of the month following the month in which the individual you recommend to us completes their switch.
7.The account of the person whom you recommend shall also receive a £50 credit by the 20th day of the month following the month in which their switch completes.
8.We reserve the right to claim back the £50 from both parties if the recommended customer closes their account within 3 months of our crediting their account with £50. We will do this by debiting the £50 from both your and their account.
9.There is no limit to the number of individuals you may recommend in any twelve month period (starting on the date of your first recommendation) but the maximum amount we will pay you in relation to this offer will be £500.
10.This offer may not be used in conjunction with any of our other current account cash reward offers.
11.We reserve the right to extend or withdraw this offer at any time and without notice to you.
Where does it say in the terms and condition that recommend a friend payment will not be paid the 2nd time?
Thanks

i don't believe it does starM.0

StarM my thoughts are if the friend kept the Nationwide account as her main account after the previous switch then Nationwide could argue that the 'main' account being switched to NBS is not a main account so does not qualify. This is stipulated in their offer terms.
However as NBS really only stipulate that at least two DD's must be attached to the switch account from another provider and don't expressly state salary or other funding nor standing orders, bill payments etc must be running on the account being switched then I would think the definition of a 'main' account is one with at least two DD's, nothing else!
I think one can have several 'main' accounts, Nationwide has several definitions of a main account, one is to fund with £750+ a month with no other requirement!
So maybe with some 'pushing' Nationwide will give in as it shouldn't really get to the stage of the account being opened to be told you don't qualify.0 -
Yorkshire Pud, The Nationwide account was not used as her main account. I did sent an reply back yesterday asking where in terms and conditions states recommend a friend is once only. Normally they are really quick to reply but they haven't replied yet.
I am sure that's nothing to-do with condition 10??
10.This offer may not be used in conjunction with any of our other current account cash reward offers.0 -
From the Nationwide site:
I have a joint account. If I recommend the other account holder and they switch their main account held with another provider into our joint account, will they still be paid?- select this to hide related content
Yes, you will both be paid £50 each into your joint account.0 -

The Q&A states this
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/products/current-accounts/landing-page/recommend-a-friend#~
Now this implies it will only be paid if the person uses this as their main account – presumably you can only have 1 main account in their eyes. But the point is the terms don’t rule out getting two lots of £50s from switches in – so they should pay both of you the £50.
So complain – you never know.
"Can I recommend someone who already has a Nationwide current account
Yes, you can. If your friend has a Nationwide current account but they use an account held with another provider as their main transactional account (for example having their salary paid in or bills paid from), they can complete a full Current Account Switch, transferring at least 2 Direct Debits across to us (the Direct Debits must be transferred as part of the switch, not transferred afterwards)
They will then qualify for the offer. See also the offer's terms and conditions (This link will open in a new window) for more details regarding eligibility criteria."0 -
Has anyone received both the 'refer a friend' bonus and the £80.80 TCB payment? I opened an account via TCB back in March and received the 'refer a friend' bonus a few weeks later, but the £80.80 is still just showing as confirmed. Just wondered about other people's experiences.0
