  • Thanks for the reply :0) So just to confirm thats my extra box,
multi-room, HD, and all of the channels. She swore blind that I would not get more than 25% and they have already offered 35%

The reason you haven't had a discount in 12 years is presumably because you haven't asked. If you don't, then they will of course be delighted to charge you the rack rate for as long as you stay.

Correct - Too bone idle to call !!

Too be honest unless they offer 50% for 12 months I am ready to leave. I have mentally prepared myself :)

The discount would normally just be off the TV package only and wouldn't include multiroom or HD.

Nobody is too idle to call. The fact is most people don't know they can get a discount if they call.

The record of energy switching does not support that view. There can't be a household in the country still unaware that they could save money by switching. Yet 70%+ remain with their legacy suppliers from 30 years ago, or inherited with the property.

I agree. But does that include TV switching?

No, I was purely quoting energy figures. But Sky have 10m+ customers, and I'd wager good money that 90% of them pay the rack rate (thereby kindly subsidising discounts for the kind of people who frequent this forum).
Don't underestimate customer apathy: the business model of most banks, energy, telcoms and home and motor insurance companies depends on it. I don't think Sky or VM are any different.

Surely they are the same people ?

Those who are aware of switching tend to check the utility switching sites which show TV as well as utilities those who are uninterested or "bone idle :) " don't.

MSE users aren't typical consumers - I know plenty of people who even when I quote what savings I've made by switching or by using TCB or Quidco tell me it's too much effort or they can't be bothered. I just don't get it TBH :)

My OH was one of them -when we got together I had to switch just about everything -and he still can't believe how much money I got back from Virgin Media without having to switch with just one call. I still can't train him to use Quidco though <sigh>
