Sky cancelled

Options
I have given my 31 days notice to cancel Sky and already my family are complaining about recording tv.

I have an LG smart tv with HD Freeview. My question is what is the cheapest way to record tv, in the event that I am not offered some sort of deal by Sky?

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
  • Doesn't Sky charge £10 a month to keep the recording options on the box?

Yes they do, and yes if you've cancelled with them - how else?! You will NOT be recording for free on your Sky box, and you WILL lose the ability to view your recordings.

Buy a Youview box and connect it to your aerial and broadband.
This will give you most of the facilities your Sky box has, if not the same exhastive list of channels.
Record 2 channels, catch up services, HD Freeview just like you're used to VIEWING on your TV. You can't record off your TV's tuner if that's what you're after.

Unless the OP already has a working aerial, then a Humax Freesat (not Freeview) PVR would be the best option, as it can use the existing dish and LNB. No need for an aerial, and almost the same channel line-up.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for all your replies. My daughter has just moaned about Sky Atlantic so I noticed that if nothing is offered from Sky, due to end on 26 Feb.,Now Tv have an Entertainment package @£6.99 per month with first month free with no contract. I know this will be via broadband. Still cheaper than basic Sky.

Have been checking My Sky but nothing offered until today(due to get disconnected on 26 Feb) offering 35% off for 12 months. I have Family bundle with Sports 1 only and HD was paying £41 odd which is too much,so my bill would be £27 odd.

I wonder will anything else be offered?

Do I need to contact them to get a better offer or will it be on My Sky?

...in my case the 35% off offer on MySky changed to 50% off the day my cancellation happened !! I then contacted them via chat the following morning and managed to negotiate £25 bill credit as well as 50% off - I was happy with that as it reduced my Sky TV bill to less than £5 per week which was my target !!:T...but I suspect that I might have been able to screw a few more ££s bill credit out if I'd waited a few weeks more .:)
