  • Hi OP, I'm so glad to read you got the items and a copy of the will. Your grandmother sounds like she was a wonderful woman who loved you and wanted you to have happiness

I don't think you're a gold digger. To me it sounds more like you wondering if your grandmother really did love you like she said she did and her managing to prove it.

I also finally received the copy of the will, I am mentioned a few times, due to the fact as I am adopted I would not be considered legally entitled if not specifically mentioned, so my Grandma made sure I was not to be excluded by mentioning me by name at all the relevant points. This meant more to me than even the jewellery did, knowing that even though I am not legally considered family due to the adoption but knowing she still did consider me to be family and made damn sure I was fully included in her will has lessened a lot of the pain I have been carrying for all these years.

This is probably the most valuable thing she left you. So glad it worked out - she sounds like a good woman.

I'm really pleased there was a happy outcome for you both in terms of the will contents and getting the items you were left. Thanks too for coming back to update.

I know I am being nosy but how did you get the jewellery in the end? Reading your posts at the time it sounded like your birth mother would never hand it over & you were giving up hope.
  • I'm glad you got it sorted - the executor of my grandmother's will stole lots of the things my grandmother had left my mother, me and my siblings but unfortunately didn't mention them specifically in the will, had just left all her possessions to my mum having verbally told my mum what she should give to who. The executor stole all the items of value so for example an amethyst and diamond ring I was left, and a diamond ring my sister was left, then when challenged claimed my grandmother only bought cheap items from charity shops which couldn't be further from the truth! Unfortunately without receipts for the items there was nothing we could do so we have had to move on with our lives (with the exception that in our eyes my uncle is dead to us - I hope he chokes on it!).

I am so happy for you - its the outcome I was wishing for for you.

No, I never considered you a gold-dogger. As I said previously I can understand that the 'remembrance' in the will would have been enough but, its lovely to have those personal pieces of jewellery that SHE picked out for you specially - that's what counts.

Yes I received them a few days ago, there were some rings, watches, earrings and bracelets. I was shocked to actually get them but quite possibly my grandfather (who it turns out was executor) had asked my mother if she had sent them and she realised she had to as had no excuse, especially as she had had them for about 6 months.
There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.

The exact items to be given to each person wasn't specified, but my grandfather was given the task of going through her personal items and dispersing it through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, so I am guessing he decided exactly what we all got, I had never had a rummage through her jewellery box (having not been in her life when I was a child, the only time it is appropriate to have a good rummage lol) so I have no idea what she had but the items I received are perfect, and seeing her so determined that I be included in the legal definition of her family was worth more than anything else she possessed.

The executor of your grandmothers will sounds like an utter knob, why is it that death and 'who gets what' brings out the worst in people, like vultures picking over a carcass :(

I'm so glad that you've received what was promised to you in your grandmother's will. I'm sure that you and your daughter will treasure them always :T
