So visit the site when it's no so busy then!

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thats gonna be the problem, people are just not going to keep re-visiting the site if its too slow.

I was online at 3.00am this morning, and it was very very slow, what time do you suggest I visit to avoid the busy times:confused:

Hello a11wayindebt, I hope Pink has taken our advice this morning? I felt so sorry for her at 3.00am, I couldn't offer her anymore advice and I had to go to bed, I had to get up at 6.30pm, she's not back online yet though.

I've said it before (and got a barbed response from Martin for it), but this site has never been the speediest.

Lately, it has been lumpy again. Curate's egg stuff - good in patches!

I'm surprised the tinkering last year did not focus more on the response rate.

Given Martin's quote that " ... as I write (June 2007) the site is very healthily in profit." I would have thought this would have been the thing which needed funds spent on it.

The usual response that it gets overloaded at times, is not good enough. The 'overloading' is due to the promotion the site receives on TV and this, in turn, is what generates the 'profits'.

oh yayyyy MSE is back, well for me anyway

i seem to be the only person for approx a week and half with page not found when i try and bring the site up in a new browser.

I have tried various other pc's including my mum's my neighbours and friends plus work and nothing :(
but yayyy oh yayyy i can now access the site.

if the problem is lack of server capacity i do hope the site does still stay free to use as there is another site i used to visit that is going to start CHARGING its users to post on the forum

I think this will never happen. Martin set up this website to help people in debt. People in debt arnt going to pay to access information that can be gained free at ccs/cab/payplan. People just have to be patient when its slow, it reaches the masses and some people need to understand that before complaining.

So restarted and nada, Just got boot error so ran Recovery Console and tried CHKDSK /P and no errors were found and also tried FIXMBR and FIXBOOT and still nothing, so I put in a new PSU from 350w to 450w and now everything is absolutely whizzing along even OE,IE,Boot, it just amazes me what can be gained by replacing a PSU.

Sorry MSE for thinking the site was slow.
If the Pc was powering up before, not sure why a replacement PSU would change anything.

We are constantly expanding the server base and have more coming online. This isn't a financial issue. It's a technological one. The forum uses huge resources and the increase in users has an exponetial effect.

4,000 to 8,000 users doesn't simply double the stress. With people trying to write and read the forums at the same time; there's a lot of interaction happening so the more people the more stress.

We are constantly working to build, tweak and improve. Two more front ends should be online soon. Yet we try not to have downtime at peak periods which means we have to wait and only have limited time to install things.

The site is growing constantly which is great; we are continuing to add resources and overall the site is incredibly fast. At the moment we're suffering a little on Wed evenings when the cross over from the weekly email traffic, the GMTV traffic and the It Pays To Watch traffic means an enormous peek in deman. But we're working to add server power to support that.
