Oooh, yes I forgot to update about Milliefleur, Pyxis! Between her church, social services and Age Concern they managed to find something for her to do every day. She now either goes out or someone comes round for tea every day of the week, some days she has morning and afternoon activities. I couldn't handle it but she loves the interaction! No more phone calls saying she is lonely at all, and the volunteer from Age Concern who pops round for tea also does little odd jobs for her such as changing batteries that she cannot do alone. She was also put in touch with the local Jehovah's Witness church who now send two people to visit every Thursday afternoon. They don't talk to her about church, just stay for a few hours and chat about life in general. She has a young man pop in every week to keep on top of the garden, too which she supervises and they are planning all kinds of plants for the spring. He also changes lightbulbs for her and does any odd jobs that pop up.

On top of that she is checked on every morning and has meals delivered twice a day so she see's lots and lots of people! WaSp is driving her to Leicester next month for her to stay in a hotel for a weekend with some other people Age Concern help, she now has a very busy life indeed! It's amusing because her ideal life is my worse nightmare, I couldn't handle that many people, I would go bonkers within days! She loves it, though. The more people she see's the happier she is.

That all sounds great WaS :) Am getting excited about penguins on your behalf!
  • Hahahahaha! me too, tea! This time tomorrow I will be an hour and half from penguin feeding! the information they sent me is amusing, I am to wear non-slip shoes (I have wellies!) because the penguins apparently 'surge' from the water at you when you enter with food and it is a bit slippery! They also have their hand-reared baby one that can be cuddled!

I can! They have one that had health problems at birth so they hand reared him. He is very tame and I am allowed to cuddle him! I am so looking forward to it, as it is late in the day I am even contemplating getting there 30 minutes early to have a look around considering children are in school and they said therefore it is quite empty at the end of the day in winter. We shall see how brave I feel.

I shall be thinking of everyone here wishing you were all with me, how could I not when surrounded by 28 penguins? They have also recently upgraded the penguins home and now they have a huge place to live and water slides which should be amusing!

  • Yay for cuddling baby animals! I stroked a bunny, a skunk and a meerkat a few days ago :)

Am so glad to hear about Milliefleur, WaS!

Feeling a bit better in myself now. Had some coaching-related ructions that seem to be sorted. Sadly it's wreaked havoc with me and I am off work with dreadful stomach cramps :(

  • Glad you feeling a bit better, HBS but boo to tummy pain!

I have always wanted to meet a skunk! I am so jealous!
