I thought it was interlocking hands, too! :)

Or is it people with something/someone over their shoulder?

With regard to your signature, my answer would be:

If it's Leonard Cohen, the latter. Any other music, the former!

If you're careful about identifying information, the beauty of an anonymous public forum is that you can say things you may not be able to say to the people around you in real life. Which can be a helpful source of support.
However if you then start posting pictures of very identifiable pets, you blow your anonymity out of the water.:o You just need to double check before you post, if it's a bit sensitive.

I don't have any pets, so that's a good start :p & as i lead quite an anti social & isolating life i doubt i'll be identified. I've just never been very good at talking about my problems.
The internet thing i guess is more about it turning into real life, as in invisible etc - if that make sense.
What came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

    What about The Smiths :D

Is it possible to upload a pic from the hardrive or does it have to be from a website?

Yep, you can post from your camera roll, but you need an account with something like Photobucket. (Free).
Be sure to enable all the privacy functions though!
You then upload the photo onto Photobucket, or similar, and then post from there onto the forum.

(Don't know The Smiths, but I'd add Coldplay to Leonard Cohen. God, they're dreary!)

Well i guess it's neither a rant or a vent, but i will say that i've never been very good at opening up about certain things - especially on internet forums, even more so on public forums .

I'll hopefully drip feed how things are, or i could end up writing a disertation :rotfl:.

But for starters, i was sitting in St Pancras earlier today (i'll go into why i was there at some other point) - anyway, whilst sitting there i suddenly felt invisible & felt more alone than ever - it was not very nice :(.
This is interesting. I got on the train this morning and it was the usual stony silence and miserable faces, and I felt kind of miserable and alone too. I happened to catch the eye of a nearby lady passenger and we simultaneously smiled and said hello. It was rather nice as she was quite attractive (hopefully she thought I was quite attractive too - I am happily married by the way!). I wouldn't normally even consider doing anything like that but it really brightened my day, whilst making us feel slightly awkward for the rest of the journey (well it did me anyway). I think there are more people prepared to be pleasant to others than perhaps meets the eye. Maybe worth smiling and saying hello to a nearby stranger sometimes, not that it's always a particularly easy thing to do.
Anyway, I might have a question for you good people in due course. (If this thread is about what I think it's about!)

Yes, this is a nice thing to do!

An easy way to do this, and a safe way!, is to smile at someone of either sex who is a lot older than you are.
(I was going to add, and a lot younger, but that might not be a safe thing for a man to do, most unfortunately.)
It tells them that they're not invisible

Don't worry if you get the occasional stonewall; they might be embarrassed or surprised or suspicious, but for everyone like that, I bet there'd be half a dozen or more who would be delighted to be smiled at and for whom you'd make their day! :)

    Hello, by the way! :)

Hello to AntoMac and any more new people thinking about popping in, the more the merrier. :)

I'm useless on the question answering front, I'm here because I like the company and I'm interested in issues around mental health. Plus I have one of the thread pets for occasional comic relief.

Edit - and in line with a previous not strictly upheld resolution to curtail my online surfing at silly o'clock, I will see you nice people tomorrow.

Here we all are in a shiny new tent. Not a camping tent. A desert tent. Like sheiks live in in old movies. Bags I be Grace Kelly.

AntoMac - the answers to the questions you're going to ask are: 36, yellow, of course, and cucumber.
