As far as I know (never used one) it has a data allowance like a mobile phone and you plug it into the laptop like a memory stick.
Then the internet fairy waves their magic wand and hey presto you're connected.
(That last bit may not be strictly accurate, but I've reached the outer limits if my technical know how.)
Yep, that's pretty much it. It works a bit like a mobile phone in that it picks up the signal from t'internet. It then feeds this to your computer so there you are, connected! (As long as you can get a signal.)
There's a good page on this site telling you where the cheapest deals are, but as I say you can normally get a pre-loaded one from Ebay. Then you just either buy a pre-loaded SIM or get a contract (which can be rolling month by month). I use mobidata and pay a fiver a month (not for my main BB but to keep connected when I am out match betting.)
BTW - warning - I think it's still true that 3 dongles only work on services which use 3 as a carrier (includes Mobidata) and that all other dongles and SIMS are interchangeable.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Shouldn't this chappy be playing with his own dongle instead of us doing it for him?0

Actually you are right, of course, but it's good and useful general knowledge!
If I were doing it today, I would search Ebay or Amazon for the cheapest ZTE dongle on 3 system, then get a free data offer from http://mobi-data.co.uk/uk/en/best-offers (No vested interest I promise!)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Tea, in the nicest possible way, stop stressing about FOH's lack of organisation. He's a grown man and can sort himself out. You're not together anymore so it's not your problem if he has power or internet.
I bought myself a disposable CBD hookah and some CBD oil, as I've read it's supposed to help me with the pain and/or put me to sleep. They were delivered earlier and I've now decided I'm frightened of them and hidden them in a box in a cupboard under some books in case they escape. What's the matter with me?Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -

You're right
My only concern with the broadband is that he's supposed to be taking this contract with him, and I'm starting as a new customer. For varied boring reasons that I won't go into here (but that do make sense). Am stuck with sorting out a new contract until he makes a start with changing his address on the existing one.
But yeah - TV licence, council tax, water rates and all that jazz is his own problem now. As I've been (unsuccessfully) telling him for years - I'm not his mother! :rotfl:0 -
Ah yeah, that could be a problem. It's more of a problem if he leaves you without internet.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

Hmm, sort of. I can quite see what I would imagine.
FOH 'moves out'. FOH has no internet or electricity. FOH knocks at tea's front door, asking if he can stay because of this.
In my scenario, I would feel awful whatever I did. But I would feel a whole lot less awful if I could say 'Look, I told you what to do about these. I even got you a dongle/gave you a link to get one/whatever. It's NOT MY PROBLEM, GO AWAY.'
(i.e. I'd feel lots better if I had tried to help in advance, and more justified in saying no.)
Edit - oops, have only just seen post above.codemonkey wrote: »I bought myself a disposable CBD hookah and some CBD oil, as I've read it's supposed to help me with the pain and/or put me to sleep. Do you know what you're frightened of? Addiction? Stupification? An Alice In Wonderland sized caterpillar appearing at the other end of the hookah? (Trying to think of something silly, here, but conscious I might just be making things worse.) It's just that if we know what you're scared of, someone might be able to help. ((()))Ex board guide. I have no idea why I'm afraid of it JM. I'm feeling a little...unbalanced today.
It's only hemp oil so neither illegal nor addictive. It doesn't have any THC so no caterpillars appearing. Maybe that it wont help and I'll have been an idiot for spending my money on it.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
I can relate to that - I am very poor at unpacking new stuff. Firstly I hate reading the manuals, and secondly I am scared it won't live up to my hopes, and would rather not know for a while!
DH leaps at stuff, unpacks it and patiently installs it. And if it's clothes he..... well, he WEARS them. Whereas I wait for a special occasion and the stuff sometimes goes out of fashion before I actually try it onEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
LOL, that's me too JM! I have sent many a dress to the charity shop with the tags still on because I've either expanded out of a dress, or it's gone out of fashion by the time I actually decide to wear it!
Trying to stop this bad behaviour!
Nothing wrong with delaying opening the package until you feel like you can deal with it Code.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
