Hello everyone! (Subscribes to shiny new thread).
After a week of flu-like symptoms, my husband has been admitted to hospital for tests. This is due to the violent headache which is not consistent with his other symptoms.:( They are testing him for viral meningitis. He has had this before, in his twenties, although he does not seem as ill this time.
I tend to go into 'numb' mode at times like this, so am managing well on automatic pilot. I will feel my emotions again once he is better.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

The curtains being shut is so I can hide away, I love looking at the outside world but don't want/like people looking at me.
Also IKEA do lots of voile curtains. In particular, the ones that have a sheen on them are brilliant. Again, you can see out, but no-one can see in! Not unless it's dusk and you turn the light on, but then you can close the main curtains!xXMessedUpXx wrote: »I feel like i am a bad person right nowseven-day-weekend wrote: »I tend to go into 'numb' mode at times like this, so am managing well on automatic pilot. Stock up on good food with some treats so that when he's better you can dissolve without having to go out much. :A (((((((((7DW))))))))))(I just lurve spiders!)

Please keep us in the loop. Severe headaches can be lots of things ... Its a pesky old symptom;), he is in a good place for them to look in to causes.
I'm having a surprisingly good weekend for someone who has felt so grotty. It started with someone attempting to pick me up on Friday night ......( I knew I was having a good hair day but I was still very surprised). This was an ego boost.0 -
Just heard from him. He is feeling better today. He is having a scan and a lumbar puncture . Glad they are being thorough.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Yes, they are (hopefully) ruling out viral meningitis. He's had it before, in his twenties. He does not seem so ill this time.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

In answer, nope, not tried blinds....goodness knows why I haven't thought of that!
Part of the reason may well have been having young children in the house (disabled ones at that) but no excuse now as they are 16 (nearly 17), 18 and 21...hmm, will have to look at getting some. Weirdly, I don't have any window coverings in my bedroom, the rail fell down some years ago and it hasn't been put up again since, no-one can see into my bedroom as I only have bungalows opposite and I can sit in my bed on my laptop, see outside and not be seen...I love watching the night sky from my vantage point.
Does anyone else get sensitive to people being condescending? I once chucked a CPN out of the house when she told me (in a high pitched, jolly on voice) that I was doing really well. My reply was "If I am doing so well, then what the hell are you doing in my house, I wouldn't be needing you here!"
I know people are only trying to make me feel better about my lot but I would prefer it if someone said that things are progressing but there is still room for improvement or there are areas we could concentrate on, rather than trying to jolly me along by saying platitudes. I know I am slightly messed up, I know I am a little weird or odd (I embrace being different) but I also know there are bits where things could be improved with help from others.
Or am I just being awkward?
Mind you, I don't want it the other way either, telling me everything is hopeless...I just want people to see me as me and responding to suit rather than using text book stock answers designed to jolly on the masses.
Sorry for the rant...had another day on Friday of someone telling me what a great job I have done with the children with a false voice. Yes James is at uni against all the odds but that isn't all down to me, James is a determined begger just like his mother and had a hand in it too. If HE hadn't got his head down and got on with it, then no matter what I had done, he wouldn't have been able to put aside his caring duties, his disabilities and he wouldn't have got the results needed and gone.
Hmm, turned into a bit of a rant...sorry about that.
Thinking of fluffy pillows to calm down now.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I absolutely agree with this!
In one of my drama groups, there's a coach who tells everyone they're marvellous. Now, I'm not marvellous, if I were, I'd have gone to RADA and made it my career. Equally, I'm a lot better than others in the group, but not as good as some. Yet everyone is told that they are marvellous. (I mean in a one-to-one coaching situation, not in front of everyone else.)
So, it becomes a meaningless compliment. You're left not really knowing how good you are, or whether you've improved or not, etc., and in reality, it's worse than nothing being said!
I think she's been told to be encouraging, but it's so overdone!(I just lurve spiders!)

I will have to do some exercise.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
