Off to a hopefully painfree sleep on our new mattress that got delivered today.
Night nightDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
A slow start for me but a SFD. Put two loads of washing on the line and spent over three hours in the kitchen cooking and doing food prep. Still loads to do but back is aching and have been fighting the urge to sleep for the past three hours.
Bobarella I don't know why they won't give my money back. I let them know when I moved from the big house back to here (have been paying both bills). They made a mess of that, asked for details of change of tenancy. Wrote another explanatory e-mail.
Knew they had the readings wrong but hadn't been able to do them every time (meter inaccessible and waited twice for meter man - left note by door asking them to give me time to come to the door and hovered all day). Finally got DS3 to do readings at both houses and then supplied photographic evidence when requested - still no action.
In January got readings again (had to wait till I could move stuff to get to the meter). Spent an afternoon going back through all my on-line bills and previous e-mails and wrote long factual e-mails for both accounts, headed Official Complaint and specifically requesting the money be paid back to my bank account.
They had credited my account at the other house with £155 credit (empty house so very little usage) and I used their figures to work out that they owed me about £249 here. They have sent 3 e-mails, 2 giving my complaints a reference number and one saying it was my fault because I had given a faulty reading and therefore subsequent lower readings had been rejected.
Replied politely to facetious e-mail but also started switching process here.Gave a mid-month and an end month reading (but they had set the date of the 28th instead of month end) and the meter man came in between so further evidence that my figures are correct.
The latest bills (both estimated) they have decided the empty house has used £88 of gas by itself so set that against the credit on my account of £150. Here they have credited me with £150 of the £249 they owed me but then decided I have used £165 of gas this month so I 'owe' them a net £10 + electric. Can't cancel the dd as they will say they have no way of refunding me.. But next Monday the six weeks is up and I can send it to the Ombudsman who will look at what I and the company have done to resolve the situation.
Today I am grateful for Radio 4, for calm weather (put more washing out, counting it as exercise) and for having the skills and knowledge to make meals from initially unpromising ingredients - may have a fab end to February. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Mothernerd hope you get it sorted soon. I am with ovo for gas and electricity and I can't speak highly enough of them. They email me every month to remind me to give readings so that my monthly bills are always accurate. They pay interest on any balance on my account and have always refunded any balance immediately when asked to do so.
I have been really out of it the last 2 days. Have had heating on, been wearing layers of clothes, and using hot water bottle, but still been freezing. Went back to work today and actually feel a bit better for getting out of the house.
Today has been a spend day as I did the weekly shop after work so that I don't need to do it on my day off.0 -
Morning everyone and sorry for being mia lately!
Huge apology to Bob! Thank you so much for that detailed list you wrote up! I really appreciate it. I've been so busy with the hallway fiasco and definitely my frog, that I haven't been on. The little fella has been great helping me, while the older ones only enquire about when it will be finished or when will dinner be ready .
I'm treating the little fella tomorrow and will let him choose from your list Bob, where he wants to go, so thank you again :T
Thrifty, I feel your pain! It's only natural to want some me time. Even now, sometimes, I do get fed up leaving work to have to come home expected to cook and stuff and then too exhausted to do anything exclusively, just for me.
I'm working from home today, but will get on with the hallway once I finish. In truth,I'm getting bored of it lol. Hopefully, we can start putting paint down over the weekend.
Sending hugs to everyone as the hardest part of the year, can be this part of the year.
Take care everyone.:A Your Always in my heart, you never ever will be forgotten-9/9/14:heart2:0 -
Welsh kitty - wow. Ovo sounds great. I'm tied in with First Utility till July and with this debit situation can't move anyway. I was torn as they suddenly told me I wasn't on their cheapest tariff. But when I looked at it, that required me to tie in till 2018. So I'm just going to eat the higher charges till June and give notice.
Mothernerd - what a complicated ridiculous situation they've created for you. I can only hope the ombudsman are more use to you than they've been to me. I made a written complaint against my insurer in July which they had to respond to legally by September. They didn't. So I escalated it. And here we are 6 months later with zero progress. I have an adjudicator on speed dial, who seems to do bleep all. I have lost all faith in most professional bodies over time. But good luck again with yours. Someone has to win right?
Traveller - you are so welcome and don't apologies. Sounds like you have your hands well and truly full. Hope you enjoy your time no matter what you do.

Happy Thursday everyone - almost the weekend. Has anyone got any nice plans? My brother ( who lives abroad) is home for a bit - he is at my mum's so we are going to visit and go out for a meal - this is what this month's social budget is for - very excited to see him as it's been a year.
Had to get a few bits yesterday so no SFD, but today and tomorrow should be too. Otherwise nothing to report.
Thrifty - hope the new mattress was ok and you had a lovely sleep!
Welshkitty and Mothernerd - hope you're both feeling better.
Traveller - hope hallway is nearly done, enjoy your day out.

I have 'found' my frog - and it is a big one! A goliath one, to me. Found it after separate conversations with my mum and dad, and it involves a lot of brainwork and research - and action! Thank you so much mothernerd for the extra challenges.

Hi everyone,
Sorry I have been out of touch. Sorry to hear a few have had a rough run this week - sadly things have been a bit stressful for me too hence the disappearing act.
Although I have my new job (in principle) I am still negotiating a start date so I am one month without a wage and scared it may be a few weeks longer.
As the bills don't stop I am starting to stress out and as I don't have an emergency fund whilst I pay off my debts I am a bit worried.
However hopefully I will hear more about a start date tomorrow. I need to get back on my debt free journey and feb challenge.
I spent £1.80 on my food shop top up today but have clocked up 3 SFDs this week.
Will try to get on here more as want to support you all and stay in touch

Debtdrowning hope you get a start date and some wages. Be careful, how the heck do you manage with no money?
Spent today, milk, lemons and a cabbage. Pancake day no 2 with youngest daughter. She was horrified went to her boyfriends house on pancake day and they produced shop ready made ones. Don't get why can't make a pancake.
Cabbage good intentions of making some healthy soup but seeing pigged out pizza, lemon/sugar, chocolate/strawberries/ice cream pancakes and glass of wine feeling bit lazy oops.
Magiccat enjoy your catch up with your brother.
