  • holiday paid for but had saved up for it and we've signed on the dotted line for a new boiler. Ours is well over 15 years old and doesn't sound great and isn't heating the house as well as it should.Very refreshing to have someone who says this is the price and thats it, rather than let me ring my boss/ office , i can give you x discount. So its coming thursday:eek: it felt good to say we didn't need finance , as we've been saving for years to get a new one.:j

bob - I don't do ynab, I don't do spreadsheets. I do pencil scribbles on scraps of paper, that usually manage to end up in a notebook! I don't have a clever phone, don't do apps beyond scrabble, and my typing on the tablet usually ends up with 'm' for 'n' and 'r' for 'e'. But I'm still here!

Today I am grateful for a pyjama day with dd, for lo steak for tea, for getting train tickrts to visit my mum that cost less than it would in the car, for dd doing awesome bounces amd hula hooping, for dh doing all the washing up today.

Apologies if this is a bit disjointed. I have been making notes in the small notebook throughout the day but have also written a couple of long pieces as well so if I flip back and forwards and please don't be offended if I miss you out.

Synonymous woohoo to the Oslo trip and peer recognition.

Lilt off the top of my head - posting it down floorboards, behind skirtings, down the couch (cushions or sides), in her own toy purse or bag or posting box/ shapesorter, down the sides of kitchen units or equipment, between the books on a shelf, down the toilet (DS1 had a phase of dropping toy cars in, I used a ladder on its side to block access as it was too tall for him to climb over and he went to the barrier and then lobbed them in the general direction), under her pillow/ mattress, in a pocket, at least it's too big for her to have swallowed it.

Well done on cooking and cleaning with Jellytot's help and massive congratulations on frog eating - my oven bottom is driving me mad but although I can put trays in and out now I can't bend down (or sit leaning forward) for the length of time cleaning would take.

Magic Cat sorry you are still unwell and thriftylass oh to the joys of small children. Sending dodgy turtle hugs. Calling14 turtles do not whinge (NSK is watching us). However there comes a time in every turtles life when they need to lie on their back and float for a bit and yes hot baths got me through a very difficult first year with a non-sleeping DS1.

As to boasting cousin, yesterday it was mostly holidays in New York (as in when we went the first time), at his fortieth (he's 5 weeks older than me and we lived next door to each other until I was 11) it was boasting by proxy as his then 10yo son stood by the buffet telling everyone how much his mum and dad had paid for said buffet especially the whole side of salmon and after my dad's funeral it was mostly about how grateful his (2 years younger and much nicer) brother should be as all his success was due to his lifelong struggle to match/ better his own achievements.

One of the nicer bits yesterday was that younger brother (age 55) retired 14 months ago. It made me a bit wistful, but am much cheered by the thought of how much it must upset the boastful one.

Be nice to yourselves turtles. It's Monday. It's February, the time of rocketing divorce petitions.

NSK welcome to out humble tribute thread.

cupcake queen well done on the cinema freebies and on visiting the doctor, always better to take action as soon as you notice the symptoms. If it's helpful I can share tips and tricks for outwitting it - people liked my portable rainbow.

Welsh Kitty is the Butterfly Park near LLandudno, big park with lots of grass and big trees and squirrels. must have been there about 23 years ago (DS3 was a baby). We have the red squirrel reserve in Formby which is lovely. Saw a report last year and the wardens had noticed that some of the squirrels who had had the squirrel flu had survived. Oh I am starting to want to go places again.

I went to a conference in Edinburgh once and we were next to the zoo. I loved the penguins and also remember the laziest lion I have ever seen (think Clarence from Daktari if any of you are old enough). Mind you don't think Edinburgh is an ideal habitat for lions. DS1 and gf went to Edinburgh 2 years ago and the first thing I asked was did he go to see the pandas - he had forgotten all about them.

I have had a very lazy day. One of yesterday's indulgences (1 glass of wine, 125ml of fruit juice - they ran out of fizzy water and I'd drunk a jugful of plain, small piece of cheesecake, no cream or ice-cream) was too much or my tablets went into overdrive (may have taken 2 cholesterol tablets which isn't life threatening.

Woke with a headache (had drunk lots of water) and such severe dizziness I shouted for DS3 to bring me yoghurt and porridge oats as I wouldn't go near the stairs. Stayed in bed until it all started to settle (very tired as well, dozed a lot) but have plans for the week and have nearly finished a thank you card for the library home delivery service. So a SFD (will add in a minute).

Today I am grateful for optimism, for simple food (ate the crusts off a loaf with remains of tuna, crab spread and cheese spread on separate bits with onion on top (save the tomatoes for another day) and sons who can be helpful when it's needed.

Was that the one in conwy? That one is gone now. We travelled to one on Anglesey, which actually had more of the other animals than it did butterflies, but it was lovely. Spent ages just walking the nature trail and letting kiddies run off their energy in the play areas. I fell in love with a scruffy little goat and DS made friends with a llama who was fascinated by his hood!

Hi Kat great to see you have Internet connection again.

Mothernerd off to float in bath in a bit!

Lilt I found best places to find things pushed by little ones were usually gas fire, DVD player or back outside through the letterbox.

There used to be a butterfly jungle in Conwy Mothernerd. Closed down now, nice park there still, even with annoying slides, climbing frame ones, always a space small child can hang out of and you can't reach them. Guessing butterfly park in Anglesey Welshkitty?

Well done of boiler fund Sazzlebegood, something I need to do.

    Evening all

Not caught up fully yet, as there has been so much chatter today :)

Sorry to hear so many of you are poorly, feeling meh or suffering from being down - hugs to you all.

Hi NSK - glad to feel you are still here watching over us

Thrifty - I so admire anyone who has children and works. Part of me feels like I should be having children at my age but the other part of me is scared that I would be overwhelmed as I feel like I barely cope with working full time, additional jobs, chores, 5 dogs, a cat and a peter pan like OH.

Today has been a SFD :j LTW and walked the dogs. Need to do my 15 minute tidy up before bed.

    Big hugs to all

Yes probably Conwy. it wasn't raining and it always bucketed down when we went to LLandudno - even when it was sunshining when we got off the train, rain before we got out of the station. Lovely art gallery we once spent the afternoon in.

Fmess - children with Peter Pan is as frightening as you think. It has taken nearly 3 years since she was born, one split and a shedload of work to get him to even vaguely adult level. And with 5 dogs... I would have a meltdown. There is no place small children cannot get. Everywhere has something to hide. I have seen Jellytot eat a piece of cereal from under the TV unit, and tracked it back nearly 2 weeks since that particular box ran out. I can only imagine adding dog hair into the mix. I would be shaving them all! :rotfl:

I have taken my sofa to pieces, and moved every piece of furniture. taken up her mattress and emptied out under her bed and every toy box/book shelf, etc. I've gone through every drawer in the house, checked the sides of the washing machine (much fluff, no card!), checked the shoe wheel, under rugs, behind radiators, in the pockets of the rocking chair. Wash baskets, washing machine, wardrobe, bathroom, in the real and doll prams... in the fridge, and the freezer... I know it can't have gone outside unless it was in the bin, which is looking like a distinct possibility. It just ISN'T here. I have nowhere left to look. On the plus side under the sofa is gloriously clean, as is under the desk and the skirting board have been defluffed behind all of the furniture, and under the beds has been scrubbed and vacuumed :D I am going to give in and phone for a new one. Sigh. x

P.S mothernerd this is how I imagine you...

And you can buy this art, on all manner of objects. How fab :D

  • Because I just found out tomorrow is pancake Tue I thought I make some for breakfast, as I got nothing else to do in the morning, lol. No but I actually really fancy some.

I'm not religious at all but also realised, lent starts on Wednesday. Anyone giving anything up for the next six weeks? Thought I'd do another little health trip like for dry January and cut out booze and sweets (well and the odd rollie that still sneaks its way into my hand no and then). That combined with some more me time should make me bit bit more balanced and relaxed.

  • Lent sounds like a good incentive Thrifty! For you and all others who are surviving every day with little ones...my little one is nearly 14 now...all the practical stuff does get easier....and I know your arms are probably weary from lifting, rescuing, cuddling, putting in and out of car seats...but that too goes. It actually makes me well up to think I can't any more lift my DD up and hold her high in the air!

Am super proud of DD's efforts as school captain for sports team, standing in for PE teacher who was called away during a big inter-school tournament. Sounds to me like she had them all under control and motivated against all odds! She got 'spotted' by a sports academy who are putting her forward for a sports leadership course. :T

Spendy day...not as bad as it could be, but £6 in food out, £15 DD clothing, £13 in food for house - shocking when added up. Anyway, until my payments come through, it turns out I have £7 in my account (luckily also about £40 in cash, and a full tank of fuel / fairly full cupboards). Time to pull the strings super tight again!

Have applied for and had confirmed a referral payment for A1rb&b will go through even though my friend joined with a different email account than the one I provided them with. Nice company, easily resolved via chat. Its worth at least £16 for each of us so as worth chasing up!

I know my frog. It cant be done until Wednesday, but watch this space then! Happy turtling folks!
