For the Primus Saver Option 2, is there any 12 months contract attached to it?
Another question. Land phone vs VOIP (such as vonage), which one is better?

For the Primus Saver Option 2, is there any 12 months contract attached to it?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hi Heinz, I'm looking for a monthly package that will give me 01/02/USA anytime free calls up to 90 mins.
Thanks0 -
I don't think you'll get 90 minutes but Sky Talk Unlimited (if you're a Sky TV subscriber), Euphony's euTALK+18 and Euphony's euTALK+12 CPS packages at £5/month, £5.99/month and £7.25/month respectively each offer 60 minutes.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hi Heinz,
Thanks for your help.
If I call a freephone number with BT (0800 number), can I still talk for more than 60 minutes at a time?0 -
Yes, the length of freephone calls is not time-limited.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Isn’t it a shame phones don’t have price tags? Scarily, pick up and dial and you’ve no clue how much the call is costing.
BUT THEY COULD!:
18866 does it. (Its a dial prefix call provider).
you dial 18866 then the number, and then the robot says for example
TWO PENCE PER MINUTE
so this is what OFCOM could force them all to do, and then we'd know when we're being ripped off and when we aren't
I am using bestminutes..1d a minute...BUT Talk Talk is charging me what they want to connect (variable) so am getting far higher bills than I expected.
Are all phone companies charging for connection or am I being naive. Marin is right, we have no clue what we are being charged. Surely this is something for Ofcom.0 -
I am a Voipfone user and use the service to make cheap international calls. Voipfone have just started to offer a CPS service. Anyone else taken a look at their offering: http://www.voipfone.co.uk/Voipfone_For_Your_BT_Line.php?
No free evening/weekend calls but per second billing and a minimum call charge 1p (+VAT) it seems a good option for short mobile calls. UK/europe/USA calls at 1p/minute +VAT look good too.
Is it worth considering?0 -
Comparisons would be really great to include Cable Virgin p[hones to try to work out if it is worth the huge installation cost of installing a BT phone.
Cheap calls/internet all need BT land lines, which I don't have, I use call checker a lot but find it a pain to keep checking, AND have a husband that technophobia extends to dialing prefix numbers also.Is this my only option?0 -
I'm sorry if this is covered elsewhere - I've gone boggle eyed looking through loads of posts!
With BT's new options coming out in April, are they anywhere near being a worthwhile choice?!!
As I read them, if you opt for paperless and direct debit the rental is £10.50 and will give free weekend calls (subject to 1 chargeable call per month!) and if you are happy to sign on for 12 months, your weekend and evening calls - up to 60 minute duration - are free. For another £5.95 all landline calls (60 min!) are free.
For chargeable calls BT's charges are going to be 6p set-up and the first minute then 4p per minute after that in the daytime, and 6p set-up and the first minute and 1.5p per minute evenings.
Are people like 18185 going to be changing? Is Primus 2 still going to be better?
How much reprogramming will be needed for the Orchid?
And are BT best for 0870 and 0845 now?
Help please!
I've read Heinz's 6 steps - but it didn't make it clear if it was the best option in the light of BT's new schemes.
I've just looked at Primus Saver and they state - It is not advised that the Primus Saver Service is used on lines that are attached to burglar or fire alarms.
Does anyone have experience of that. or know why - my house alarm is on the line, so that could be a stumbling block!0
