Yes, just tell them you want to leave your line rental with BT.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I already have a BT box on the wall but there's no tone when I plug a phone in although there is a line going from my BT box to the telephone pole.
Does anybody know how/when BT do this?

We're about to move out of a rented house to one we're buying, and we want to bring our number with us. However, if BT cut the line off at the rented house, we'll be liable for the £125 re-connection fee that the landlord or next tennant have to pay.

Any tips? get a new number for the new house (so leave the old number at the rented house), is that the only way?

    HI.
I have my phone line with BT and broadband with A.O.L. and I am moving house. The house I am moving to has a phone but it has been cut off, as the house has been empty for two years. BT tell me I will have to pay £125.00 for it to be reconnected, I will only be in the new house for 6 months, is there any other way I can do this and still have broadband. all help will be appreciated, thanks. Joe.

    Hi Joe,

All I can think of is to use your mobile for calls, and get one of those sim card dongles from "three" for broadband for your computer. More expensive than a fixed line, but no £125 to pay.

A friend has just switched to Tscali free phone line rental & calls (Option 1) at £14.99 per month.with broadband.
He tells me that he can use 18185 override - can anyone else confirm this?
Searching the forum for "Tiscali 18185" brought up a post by Heinz (19-11-2007) which said that only BT was obliged by contract to provide override access.
I suppose that I will have to wait a while & see if my friend can still use 18185 in a month or two.

I use the call checker on MoneysavingExpert & find it very useful, but I don't see any Tiscali call charge information., so I will miss using that splendid tool if I switch from BT
I guess that for a £16 per month saving I will have to make a tough decision.

I'm switching from TalkTalk to BT line rental which will be completed 4th March.

Can I've signup for two packages at the same time such as Primus Saver Option 2 & Sky Talk Unlimited CPS package on the same line?

No, you can only have one CPS calls provider at a time.
