Bought a clocked car from a dealer.

Then it has been run up and down a motorway.
Any service history? If it has been serviced (say it was a lease car) then it might not be that bad, especially as you say it is in good nick overall.
What about stonechips on the front? Has it been driven 2" from the car in front in proper BMW style?
If it has been cruised about in those miles won't have really stressed the engine that much.
Also, what does the V5 say about the previous owner? Is it a company or is it meant to be the chap you got it off?
Absolute guff that he didn't know. Dealer not inspecting the paperwork? Pull the other one!
Yes it has been serviced. The only problem so far is that the power assisted steering is not working and the steering wheel is stiff.
Also on the mot theres an advisory not saying under-tray fitted obscuring some underside components.0 -

PAS problem could be significant and may well be the reason the car was sold.
Regarding the advisory, that's a catch-all note which I'd ignore. On 99% of modern vehicles you could say the same.0 -
Check fluid for starters.
As for undertrays/engine covers, that's a new thing they (pathetically) do to cover themselves.0 -
PAS not working? Well careful not to damage the steering rack with this. A leak of any sort in such system would fail an MOT0

It has a fake MOT certificate, how do you know it's been serviced?
Have you contacted the garage who stamped the book?0 -
Take they key to any BMW garage and ask the service desk to put the key in the little reader they have. That will tell you the mileage and where it is upto with servicing.
WAs the PAs not working when you bought ut or has it recentky failed?0 -

Ok will do.
The PAS was not working when i bought but didnt really figure it out before buying.0 -
Of course when you handed £3k in cash to the dealer you had the sense to get a written reciept from him didn't you? One that stated his trading name and address and what you had bought.
If not you may be beyond help I am afraid.0
