If the house is worth less than the secured debt there won't be any money to pay the funeral from that asset same for all other secured debts.
Any debt not covered by the asset becomes unsecured and joins the queue.
No funeral director will accept the business on those terms.0 -
When I went on my tea break this morning I got a text from one of the quiz members. The mans son spoke to the landlord on Monday and said they cant pay for either the funeral or wake and the DSS have refused to pay for it too. Well im not giving anything and neither is anyone on the quiz as im told they think its unfair as well. Who the hell do his family think they are.Britain is great but Manchester is greater0

Then the standard process (as I understand it) would be that the family would refuse to deal with the body and the council would arrange for a "pauper's funeral". The costs for which would be reclaimed from the deceased's estate before the family got anything. Definitely not "random people down his local have to pay".When I went on my tea break this morning I got a text from one of the quiz members. The mans son spoke to the landlord on Monday and said they cant pay for either the funeral or wake and the DSS have refused to pay for it too. As you don't know him well, you have no idea of what reasons the family might have to refuse to pay (or maybe they genuinely can't and don't understand the other options).Who the hell do his family think they are.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

Legally the family have no obligation to pay. Neither do the DSS. It is ultimately the hospital if he died there or the local authority. A paupers funeral is an archaic term and it now known as a public health funeral. Having said that the whole idea of asking for a mega whip round sounds like a very bad taste joke by somebody, not the OP I hasten to add.Angry_Bear wrote: »Then the standard process (as I understand it) would be that the family would refuse to deal with the body and the council would arrange for a "pauper's funeral". There are loads of people with no relatives and no money to bury them. The state will take over, as, among other things, its a health risk not to !Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0
