Seen a 5' woman jump out of a 44 tonner, so don't see why a short woman has to have a small car.

No such thing as a car for a short person. My wife is 5'1" and she has driven:

    E39 & E60 BMW 5 Series
    E36 BMW 3 Series
Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ and WJ
Land Rover Freelander, P38 and L322 Range Rover
    Mazda Mk1 MX-5
Rover Metro, 216 Cabriolet, 220 Coupe Turbo
Fiat Bravo, Punto, Seicento and Cinquecento
Skoda Mk1 Octavia and Mk1 Superb
    Nissan Almera
    Volvo Mk1 S80, Mk2 V70, Mk1 S40 and Mk1 V40
    Citroen C2, Mk1 Picasso
    Hyundai Mk2 Coupe
    Saab 9-3 Cabriolet (currently)

She's also driven several vans and motorhomes, and towed a caravan and trailers.

She's never complained any are the wrong size/shape/level of comfort for her.

Don't let stature be a barrier, drive whatever you like - you will be limited only by your own confidence in driving the vehicle.

Not at all... she's not long-legged at all - just confident.

Being able to drive almost any car is just about adjusting the seat properly. She's yet to find one she can't drive.

Just wanted to say I have found (for me anyway) this isn't always the case.

I'm a confident driver but have found myself limited in what cars I can drive. I'm 5 foot and when we get a new car the first thing I do is have a play about with the seat to see if I can push the clutch pedal all the way down. I have previously had to rule out a couple of cars (a seat Leon and an audi a3) because however much I played about with the seat I couldn't fully push the pedal down.

Op I would go into a car sales place and sit in a few and have a play about with the seat and see how you feel and then you may get more of an idea what you want to then start looking for.

Me and my husband both have a Ford focus. One I have to actually push the seat back a click or two, the other I have the seat as far forward as it goes and it's still more of a stretch than the other focus. Ive found cars like an seat ibiza and corsa have always been ok.

    Good luck with the search.x

Perhaps you are short or know of someone who is around 5'1", what do you drive ?
My other half is 5' and drives a Megane Convertible - previously Leon, Astra TT, Tigra, MGTF, Ibiza, Pug 206cc.

Her sister is shorter and has just changed from a Tigra to a Pug 208.

Surely its not your height that strictly matters. Its torso vs leg length.

Find a car you like and go and see if it suits.
  • I am 5' 1" and prefer to drive bigger cars, particularly fond of V8s. Currently still enjoying an E53 X5 4.8is, also an Audi S8, our venerable VW Caravelle and a 7.4m motorhome, previously had a Range Rover and other big 4x4s. ........size of driver is not a limitation on the car you drive, particularly not modern vehicles.

I'm taller at 5 5" but shrinking due to back problems. I hated driving our civic type S as there were so many blind spots for me, the rear view was terrible and the front windscreen posts restricted views as well.

I enjoy driving dh's jeep patriot though, the seat adjustment is great on that. My daily drive is a fiat 500 though and I do love that. Very open and airy.

I guess it comes down to what you need out of a car. Personally I needed something small and economical for running dd and my elderly mum around. I don't need gallons of boot space. If you have four kids and a great Dane your needs will be different.
Most cars can be driven by shorter folk.
  • My mother is 4' 8" and currently drives a Suzuki Alto (Auto). She's had it 3 years and loves it.

No one is saying they do.

The OP wants a small car for whatever reason - ease of parking or such at a guess - and happens to be short. Hence the question of which small cars are comfortable for short drivers.

I think you get more issues with being too big for a car , anyone else 6 "2 and tried to drive a Pug 106 ? you ended up tickling your ears with your knees and pressing all three pedals at once

Haha, my height and first car

Fun days squeezing 5 of us (all similar height into that little car).

It's not a question of, "Can short people drive X car?" It's a question of, "Is X car comfortable for short people?" Of course there will be some better suited, although a lot of people probably don't care.

My A-class had a seat you could adjust up and forward, but the tracks to move it forward didn't go particularly far at all, so depressing a pedal the full way would cause your leg to be totally stretched. I hated it tbh as I didn't feel as 'in control' as I liked to be. I was only a named driver on it and just stopped driving it until we sold it.

The forfour was fantastic, but the difference between a comfortable driving position and a position where you were pulling your calf muscles was about 1cm on the track! Once you had got it right, woe betide anyone who changed it. I used to dread when it went into the garages, spent ages getting it back right!
