I lost my passport and had to get a rush replacement. (this was December, so only a month ago)
when I called up, I had the offer of an interview the next day, although I chose one 3 days later.
Passport was then delivered in one week.
however, it can take longer than this so I would make the call today and get the process rolling. there should be no issues for the end of February.Feb wins: Extant DVD / If I Stay DVD0 -
DS1 lost his passport recently. He applied for a new one and it took a week to arrive. He wasn't called for an interview. (He was able to quote his old passport number if that makes a difference.)I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. By the by but wea travelled to Europe via the Dover/Calais ferry in the summer. We drove through numerous countries but never showed our passports until we arrived in Calais for the return ferry crossing. The people checking were the British border control officers.0

French immigration should check (and stamp if applicable) passports of people entering France from the UK, but in practice they often don't bother. Once you're in France you can travel to any other Schengen country without any travel documents. Going back to the UK, unsurprisingly, is much stricter given the big camps of people around Calais trying to get here.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Another place to check could be your scanner if you have one. It's an easy place to put it and then forget you stuck it in there to copy it. Or maybe you had a different handbag at the interview? (assuming you're female)
Hope you find it, must be somewhere.0 -

Exactly. How would the French authorities verify who you are by taking a birth certificate? Not that you'd get that far as no airline, ferry company, coach or rail operator would take you out of the UK without a passport.
I'm not recommending it but it's incredidbly easy to get out of the UK by ferry. on my last 10+ crossings I've not had mine checked and there hasn't been anyone in the French immigration box. I'm sure we weren't checked on Eurotunnel last month too.
Getting back is harder but I did have a friend at uni who forgot his passport and got back from France with a Blockbuster card.0 -
I am going to try all this week to find it. I'm even going to call work and see if they may have it. If not, I shall just apply for a replacement (nearest passport office is a couple of hours away). I remember having photocopies of my passport a while ago so might look and see if I can find the passport number. Thank you for the help.
Also, for future reference and could help later on, I was born in Germany (to British parents and of course live in the UK)...could I possibly get a German passport too? It may help if I lose my passport again0 -
My daughter went to Paris on Eurostar in a group of 12 girls, she had forgotten her pp. the girls collected all their pp's together and handed all to the officer on the train. He shuffled through and looked at a couple but didn't count them. They did the same coming back.
Not recommending this, but it's possible.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -

Yes - I lost my passport once and after turning the house , car and office upside down I too found it under the lid of my scanner. Now it's the first place I look if I lose an important document.0
