  • Yes thats the 1 and I cant tell you why that 1 doesn't fit but it doesn't.

Says the garage that wants to sell you something more expensive.

Ha ha. You might miss out on some bargains. I have one that does about 6k a year

It rarely gets used for anything other than 100+ mile runs and has a full dealer service history.

Might this, might that.... I don't gamble and a low mileage diesel is a gamble, the house (or dealership) always wins.

Well I have had the same answer from 2 completely different garages so far.
Labour costs are going to be the same no matter which part is fitted surely.

Forget the 3m warranty you may have redress under the Sales Of Goods Act. I think the onus is now on the garage to prove that the fault was not present at purchase. The mileage your FIL does seems reasonable to use a modern diesel.

    This seems relevant.

You need to identify the root cause as well or it will happen again.

BMW have problems with Thermostats, they fail "open" at about 60k miles. This means the coolant temp never reaches the minimum temp required for the car to initiate a regeneration.

A £40 Thermostat failes and leads to a £1.5k bill for a replacment DPF. Yes, there are lots of alternatives including gutting the stupid thing.

I wonder why the main dealers are giving a "realistic" price for the DPF and added a whopping figure on top though, has the blocked DPF caused another problem e.g Turbo?

    That's steep for a thermostat.

  • An update for anyone thats interested.
I have spoke to Suzuki GB head office today and they have confirmed it is the part no. i posted earlier and the cost is £2400 plus vat.
I asked for an explanation but the PR woman i spoke to didn't have a clue but she did say she would contct the technical dept. and ask them then get back to me within 24 hours.
As for the car the old DPF filter is being cleaned today so we will take it from there.

Do you have a link to this part?

Funny I was looking at 57 plate Ignis the other day (needed a bumper and front panel) and my 5 minutes research suggested Suzuki parts were complicated and expensive, a fact borne out after a chat with my mechanic.

Guess that is why it sold for under £300!

The only thing i have is the part no. from Suzuki which is 14250-79J50-H04 and this is the one that is £2400 plus vat.
When you look online the only one thats listed is about £800 allthough as others have pointed out earlier in the thread this can be found for £300 or £400.
It seems you can only get this particular one from them and the garage where the car is have checked and the cheaper one doesn't fit.
I'll be very interested to see what Suzuki have to say about it when they get back to me.

There are actually two (to be concerned about). Main Stat is slightly more since I got mine at about £45 now with the smaller EGR stat about £35. One is easy to change, the other a complete swine.
    Those are BMW prices though.

I googled that part number and the only result is this page :)

I still think you need to be sure why it failed. If it is short journeys, fair enough but at that price, don't let it fail again no matter how you fix it.
