Exactly what has gone to OFCOM for approval? What are OFCOM working on?

You are mistaken -
Your contract with O2 will allow them to sell their network and transfer 'you' to the new owners without breaking the contract or requiring your agreement.
It would take longer than the duration of a 24 month phone contract to integrate the networks so no real changes for you except roaming between the two networks.ClaireBear83Sx wrote: »Additionally, if - as an O2 customer - you do not wish to be adjoined to the Three network for whatever reason, does this mean you can leave your contract?
I for one know that I signed my contract with O2 and not Three and under no circumstances would I willingly choose Three as my supplier and will not be impressed if/when this takeover happens.
If this was a job, new contracts would be issued etc etc so where would O2 customers stand? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You would still be an o2 customer the only change would be the parent company would be Hutchison Whampoa rather than Telefonica0 -

Yep, the term from O2 is:18.2 We can assign or transfer our rights and obligations under this Agreement or any part of it or a Related Agreement, on the same terms, to any third party.0 -
Good to see the two companies that virtually offer no loyalty to customers on upgrades.
Probably because three were already extremely competative on allowances and pricing.
Why would they need to offer 'loyalty' discounts? They and their customers know they are unlikely to get better deals elsewhere0 -
In the short term; given what has happened in the Irish Republic, I would expect the O2 to be phased out and 3 used.
Obviously, this wouldn't in itself affect MVNOs like Tesco or GiffGaff but I would imagine that GG will be be ditched as it's O2's value brand. You would still be an o2 customer the only change would be the parent company would be Hutchison Whampoa rather than TelefonicaThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. GIFFGAFF is separate to o2. it is owned by Telefonica the same as o2, so that brand may still say or could be part of the sell out deal as i think GIFFGAFF will be making money while o2 is not0 -
Giffgaff is owned by Telefonica UK, who trade as .... O2. They aren't sister companies.
I think if this goes through then Three will ditch the O2 brand but keep the minor brands like giffgaff.0 -
Giffgaff is owned by Spanish telecoms giant Telef!nica, the fifth largest telecommunications provider in the world. It’s a relationship that seems to be delivering good results for giffgaff's members. Ofcom’s 2012 report on levels of satisfaction among mobile customers found that O2 had the highest level of overall satisfaction, coming in at a whopping 81% (comfortably above the industry average of 76%). This also means that if you've got an O2 phone, you won't have to get it unlocked to pop a Giffgaff SIM in it.
Giffgaff is on the O2 network, and earlier this year, managed to gain access to O2's 4G infrastructure. With no contingent price hike, the value you'll get from giffgaff on 4G is undeniable. However, at the bottom end of giffgaff's tariffs (goodybags), you may find your data allowance is too stunted to make good use of all that extra bandwidth.
GIFFGAFF is run seperate to o2 as o2 is the parent company of GIFFGAFFGiffgaff is a mobile telephone network running as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) using the United Kingdom O2 network. Owned by O2's owners Telef!nica, Giffgaff was launched on 25 November 2009

Cookie is correct and you are wrong (quelle surprise).giffgaff ltd is wholly owned by Telefonica UK ltd (formerly Telefonica O2 UK Ltd) this is the direct owner - IE O2 so they are parent not sister.
The confusion is because the start of the report refers only to the intermediate parent which is Telefonica Europe suggesting that it bypasses "O2" but it doesn't.
Telefonica UK ltd is owned by O2 Cedar Ltd and O2 Networks Ltd. O2 Networks is owned by O2 Holdings Ltd. O2 Holdings is owned by mmO2 plc. mmO2 plc is parented by Telefonica Europe.
In each of the Annual reports the first page talks about intermediate and ultimate owner. If you goto almost the last page it refers to operating ownerships.
