May I ask a question JB , I tried to read (speed read) the whole thread but are you using wireless during these trials? If so you is your router set to run mixed i.e. wireless b/g , and do use wireless b devices. I only ask because some router/wireless pc cards don't always play nicely together.

Really just an observation for gunny, spud and kwikbreaks:cool:

I get where you're coming from, but think we've established the router is dropping sync on a reasonably regular basis...that's not to say there couldn't be a wifi issue also, but the sync problem is the headliner :) plus, a wifi fault won't affect the line rate & attenuation

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

True but hey I had to throw my hat in the ring, since the original problem was web site resets. He may be suffering from rein , but proving that is a very different matter

OK, so faceplate on the way, and OP's hunting for an alternative router to try....it's now a waiting game :)
    Faceplate is marked as 'despatched'
SiL has a spare (plusnet branded) router - she is visiting on Wed and will try and remember to bring it.

All tests have been done wirelessly

One thing that I haven't mentioned as I didn't think it relevant ... the router is also plugged into the Network printer (Brother MFC-5490CN)

    Sorry, I am again, lost .... :o
How would I go about answering that question :o

    System Up Time 17:07:19
    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3776 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 43 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 9 db 22 db

It looked fine in the preview - will try again in a while!!

That was about an hour ago - this is now
Yes the formatting got messed in the transfer and I've manually improved it. It's really only the uptime and the bottom part that is interesting anyway. The later stats show a slightly higher margin at 10dB indicating a little less local noise pickup than earlier on.

I suspect your router may well hold that lower sync and you'll only see another reset message if there is an increase in local noise causing another resync. Of course if you turn it off overnight and on again in the early evening or daytime that may explain why it syncs at one rate then can't hold it during the later part of the evening.

Incidentally this "noise pickup" I keep banging on about is largely distant MW radio stations which get stronger after sunset. ADSL works over substantially the same frequency range. Internal phone wiring acts as an antenna - the twisted pair makeup largely causes the signal pickup on each wire of the pair to cancel out. If there were a ringwire or any substantial length of wire connected to just one of the pair there would be nothing to cancel it. This is why I suspect the alarm system as that has loads of wire running from the control box to its sensors.

As Gunjack says it's really a waiting game now to see if the new faceplate stabilises things. If it does then eventually that 9dB margin should get reset back to the default 6dB and your sync will increase.

A different router may show some different attenuation figures and/or sync faster. The first would be interesting and the second a definite plus.

The chances are it will be set to B/G as I expect that is usually the default. Only very old stuff uses B WiFi - you could check the specs of each of your WiFi devices but for the most part anything made this century is likely to be G or better.

We *never* turn it off ... well, unless you tell me to! ;)

    Alarm has all wireless sensors
Wired keypad downstairs - to control box on landing - to another box in the loft - to the siren outside - and to the phone wire in the loft somewhere too

@ tavernman - input is welcomed, as no-one is perfect and can overlook a detail that may be relevant to the situation, don't see that as interfering :)

JB do you have the spec of the alarm system, in particular the wireless frequencies it's operating on? If it's low enough it could be a potential source of noise induced on the line.

Another consideration is any piece of electrical kit in your home could cause noise to affect the broadband - I had to replace a tv in Mini-Gun#2's room coz it borked the broadband, the PSU was an (electrically) noisy SoB :(

    Sorry, not a clue
There are wireless sensors in every room - installed in 2007
A quick rummage in the 'bottom drawer' says Honeywell Domonial
We ditched the original wireless system as it was unreliable and replaced it with a wired 'main system' but still stayed with the wireless PIRs

The whole house is 'wired for sound' with an Abitana box and Cat2 (?) cabling to every room
It carries TV & radio aerial / telephone (only to the bedroom) / audio
Not sure if that's relevant at all, but we ain't gonna take it out!!

    :)
