The connection was reset

There may be a totally different explanation for this and nothing whatsoever to do with your line. You do not state the sites this occurs on or your browser. But since browsers were updated to remove SSL3.0 following recent security scares some sites may fail. I get such an error when I visit https://identity.virginmedia.com/:
"The connection was interrupted
The connection to identity.virginmedia.com was interrupted while the page was loading."
Which is because Virgin have not properly implemented TLS1.2.
A longer explanation can be found at http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Email-on-firefox/td-p/2196330
Maybe your situation?0 -
You rebooted the router. I needed to see what the noise margin looked like with the original sync and check if it had reset itself.
===
Regardless of any possible software issues there is a definite issue with noise pickup on the line which will cause the symptoms because the evening noise levels are higher and causing resyncs.0 -
I still maintain there is a line/exchange issue (i.e. external to the OP's premesis)... neg noise margins and the imbalance of upstream/downstream attenuations. I would do the filtered faceplate and get the ISP to sort the line, which I recon is the real cause. OP do you have an alternative router you could use/borrow to try and eliminate yours as a cause?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Sorry, can you say that again please. Don't understand0 -

The stats show an uptime of 2 minutes, the sync is down on the 4Mbps+ it was showing in the earlier screenshots, and the noise margin is sitting at the 9dB target.
That shows that the connection has just resynced. That could be because you've just power cycled the router, you've used an option in the GUI to reset it, or by a big coincidence it lost the connection and reset itself just before you took a screenshot of the stats.
I asked for another look at the stats from later in the evening to see if the sync had held and what sort of noise margin it had maintained.
It clearly is syncing lower in the evening but not by a massive amount. After that evening resync I would hope it should be able to stay stable. Checking the stats before dusk should show a higher noise margin then back to around 9dB later in the evening
Incidentally can't you just copy the stats by left clicking and dragging the mouse over them then pressing CTRL and C then using CTRL and V to paste them into your post? That would save messing around uploading images and make them easier to read too.0 -

A no fault found callout can incur a steep charge and the only evidence for a line fault is the slightly odd reported attenuation which isn't a guarantee of a fault with the line and could just be another router foible. For my money a faceplate and different router would come before any callout.0 -

Not sure that's within my capabilities

It looked fine in the preview - will try again in a while!!

Yes, you're correct - the G was far less likely to suffer from the negative noise margin issue than most of the other variants, my GT was a pain for it at times. IIRC if the noise margin dropped too low (even without an actual resync) it would read negative
OK, so faceplate on the way, and OP's hunting for an alternative router to try....it's now a waiting game......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

May I ask a question JB , I tried to read (speed read) the whole thread but are you using wireless during these trials? If so you is your router set to run mixed i.e. wireless b/g , and do use wireless b devices. I only ask because some router/wireless pc cards don't always play nicely together.
Really just an observation for gunny, spud and kwikbreaks:cool:0
