They are actually relatively expensive to insure, as are anything that comes to mind when you think 18 year old boy driver
Insurers dont use the Thatcham Insurance Groups as these are only a measure of security and repair costs. What they do is look at their own statistics of claims rates and costs of everyone they insurer with that car and base their costs on that. After all if you run over a group of school kids at 40mph its going to made no material difference to the total claims cost if you are in a Corsa, A5 or Phantom
As corsas have a very large population of young inexperienced drivers who have a tendency to wrap their cars around trees when its full of their mates their total claims costs are typically higher than those you see with an "old mans car" despite that car being more powerful and more expensive to repair.0 -
Surely this is a !!!!in wind up!
"16 yrs old". "Worked all my life"
Lets hope that you are so arrogant and self assured that you fail your test, learn one of life's valuable lessons and are brought down a peg or two.
You also sound like the kind of young person that may be sorely tempted to take the car out for a spin when you aren't legally able.
Stick to your bicycle.0 -

Bit unfair I've watched the Young Apprentice and some of them have worked all their lives..
Ok, you're right.0 -
I doubt there is anywhere in the country that doesnt have a half decent Corsa within 30 miles.
Corsa's are not that cheap to insure.. There are many cheaper cars. And they dont have to be the tiny 900cc engine thinks like the Matiz or Seicento.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Hope he changes the oil regularly.
If it is him, then it's probably the most honest story he's invented so far.0 -
You can legally ride a moped at 16 therefore you can be down as the registered keeper with the DVLA. Can't see how it being car at 16 makes any difference to being registered keeper or not. Its the same old chestnut here people think you can't apply for your provisional licence until you are 17, where infact you can post it off on your 16th birthday if not sooner.
As already mentioned, best to get the dealer to deliver it on his trade plates. if not, get a local recovery truck out of the small ads to collect it for £20-30. Saves a lot of hassle of taxing and insuring only to cancel them.0 -

Well he claims to be.
This seems a bit suspect, though we don't know where the OP is. Maybe Corsas are rare and good cheap cars need to be bought and stored.
It's possible this guy has worked a lot and driven a few cars at 16, he could be a farmers son, for instance, which would explain the secure off-road parking. But then he would probably just get insured on one of the dozens of cars kicking about the farm already and wouldn't be as bothered about condition because he'll have the resources to fix most issues.
Anyway, assuming genuine; the registered keeper doesn't need to be able to drive it, so that's fine. It's probably cheaper to get it delivered (by dealer plates or on a trailer) than tax it for a month and getting day insurance. You can probably rent a trailer for less than the day insurance, or you likely already know someone with one.
Otherwise; just wait until you've passed your test - then you do away with all of this hassle.0 -

Secure off-road parking, worked all his life, driven cars at 16, plus caravans makes me think of a different part of society.0
