  • So been thinking today. All these banks offering rewards for switching. OH has just switches his account and so we have the joint account left with all the dd. I was wondering if I could set up a few different new accounts and add a couple of the dd to each then switch to one of the banks offering an Incentive. Anybody know the rules about these.

I know there's a minimum to pay into each but I can swish our wages about into each of them and go from there. Does an account have to be open a certain length of tine before you can switch and close it? I think ill have a look round and see about opening a couple of basic accounts and move dd about then leave it a few weeks and check out switching fir a cash reward. Seems like a good way to get free money!!

    Hello!

I started small with my account switching. There is no time limit on how long accounts should be opened for, but do remember that each new account being opened is added to your credit history. If you open and close a lot within a short space of time, it can look bad, even if you have opted for no overdraft which prevents them doing a deeper credit search.

I opened a new bank account with the Hal first off, because at the time I did it they sent me a list of DD's and I could opt to keep my old account open and just switched 2 DD's. Now the rules are a bit tougher because you have to close the old account via the 7 day switching service in order to qualify for most of the incentives.

What you could do is open a second current account with the same bank you have now.. and manually switch a couple of DD's to that.. then once that has all been completed and the DD's have been taken once, you could look to *switch* that second account. As far as I know, certain banks will allow you to open up to 10 basic bank accounts in order to budget if you prefer to have individual pots of money fo different things.

Remember that the joint account affects both of your credit histories, so switching that shortly after you have done a switch each would affect both of you again and class as a new switch on both of your credit files.

It is a slow process. I have been doing this for 3 years now and have wrung all I can out of the banks for the moment as my credit file is not looking all that rosy right now. I opened 3 accounts in the last 3 months! But I didn't switch accounts to all of them at the same time. I switched one, and opened 2 others directly without a switch.

Hope this makes sense. All I kept doing was reading about Bank Accounts on MSE website and working out which one fitted me best for the time. I got the Hal one for £100 upfront and £5 a month, then a Natwide FlexDir for £50 for me and £50 for a friend who introduced me, and 5% on balances up to X amount, as I had some savings to stash for a year :0 - then once the rate dropped I switched it out and made £150 from York bank, opened a Tee Ess Bee account which is another 5% on up to £2000 for some more savings I accrued at the time. Mine was all to shuffle savings around for the best rate possible.

    Hope this makes sense!!

And sorry you lost your subscriptions. They are making a bunch of changes at the minute. Hope you find us all!! xx

  • HM, I am so sorry to hear about Dude and poor Kitty. I am glad everything worked out with Kitty. Some people are horrible. I know my DM can't stand cats in her garden but the most she does is shoot them with garlic water. People who are cruel to animals make me sick.

How is Dude now? Hope this lurg has left him alone. It really is hitting all our little ones and some of the big ones. I am still with a sore throat and coughing. OH is STILL coughing and point blank refuses to go to a doc.

If you can switch accounts, it is definitely worth it. Lilty is definitely the pro when it comes to that. It is funny, some people are good with the accounts switching, some are good with the surveys, others are great with coupons and vouchers. I must find my particular skill. Maybe it will be finding a job in record time! (I hope!)

Weekend is nearly here! Keep strong and hope Friday is easy for you.

    Hello

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. Dude hasn't been well, I've had a huge barney with a family member and just generally had too much going on to do much of anything else!!

So good news is We've managed to save £520 a year:j How you ask, with one simple step, switch dudes nursery!
I'm totally 100% happy with his current nursery but was a bit miffed when they said it's full fees when on holiday, even though I gave lots and lots of notice. But hey ho it is in the terms blah blah so whatever. They are really good with dude and he loves going there.
Wandering home from doctors the other day I notice a nursery, pretty sure I hadn't seen it there before (the building yes but not the nursery) so I called in. Only been open a few months but full of raving reviews from the local mums in my area. The best bit a whole £10 cheaper per week and half price holidys (max of 2 weeks) :T So handed in notice at old nursery and joined with them, he starts in 2 weeks.

I've also started the process in opening a new current account with old bank (still have joint with them but switch my current so don't have that anymore. Will leave that once open for a few months and then switch to somebody else for an incentive. OH will also be taking this route when I[STRIKE] kick his backside into gear[/STRIKE] ask him politely to get on with it. Will then look at other account options over the following months but make sure I don't open/close too many and leave it as a slow process so thank you Lilt for that advice, much appreciated.

Huge row with family member regarding family even later this year. I'm right, they're wrong (not being big headed, it's actually the case) they won't listen. So I'm in an even bigger dog house with said family member than I was before, should I care, no, but do I care kind of...... More tha fact that I can't be bothered fighting with them anymore and don't see why I'm always the bad one when I've done nothing wrong. It shouldn't affect me but then I think, it's still my family and they should be happy and enjoy time with me and not just come to my house have a huge row and start screaming at me infront of my little dude (door got shut in their face at the point so even bigger big dog house).

Energy switch is nearly complete and checked old energy supplier online and I'm £162 in credit :j some of this will settle the bill as last one was January but should have a nice chunk back from them soonish hopefully.

Ummmm don't think there's much else to report. Dude is doing better and has gone to nursry today but is still quite sleepy. May have to take him back to doctors this week to have him checked out again. Never known him be quite this sleepy before.

  • Hi HM

Family arguments or any arguments for that matter leave you unsettled and stressed. Of course you care, of course it bothers you, I'm the same. I have many an argument with my DM because we both have very different ideas on where I should be living. It's never easy. It will work out though.

Keep positive and hope Dude is on the up and up.

  • Felling much better today. A very good night sleep had for both me and dude so thats helped massively. He's toddled off into nursery for his last day today, all happy and content, he stepped in the door and his keyworker grabbed him for big hugs :rotfl:today is obviously going to be a big hug day for him. They all love him lots, he's a hard little guy not to love really. So gonna be a bit sad at pick up time I think.

Nothing much to report today, I realised my min payment for the NW card hasn't been taken, then realised it was probably because of the balance transfer, as in their eyes it is a payment. So for now I'm keeping hold of that payment seen as we are going on holiday next week, just incase I need a bit extra money. I will re think when I get back and probably pay it off.

I've decided to stick with the original payments plan I had and tackle the MBNA first. I know that £800 odd has interest and the rest is 0% until next March, so will get rid of that interest part first and then re-think the plan and probably move onto the NW interest card. Unless of course somebody offers me a 0% deal and then I'll move whatever I'm paying interest onto that!

I've also sent another box off to Magpie so will have a small payment due from them soon. Seriously didn't realise we had so many dvds and cds until I started magpie'ing stuff, I think theres been 4/5 parcels sent to them since January! I've nearly emptied a huge bookcase full of them, and still have no space!!

I've got a few odd days off coming up in April, dude will still be in nursery as I have to pay anyway so makes sense he's there and my aim for these days is to really get stuck into the house. Go one room at a time, and work through every drawer, cupboard, wardrobe etc and de-clutter everything. I can then decide what is good enough to eb*y and what should get thrown/charity shop.

My other aim is to get rid of my excess weight!! I've decided to go to the family event (for now anyway) so would really like to drop a couple of dress sizes and then go wearing something outrageous that will suit my new fugure:rotfl: This will A probably wind them up even more and B just make me feel a whole lot better about been in a room of idiots!

    So aims in this post

    Have a super holiday
Stop thinking about stupid family issues
Drop a couple of dress sizes by summer (ish) time
Concentrate on MBNA card and try get it cleared.
De-clutter the house on my random days off

Feel better for getting that little list out of my head. So your job is to make sure you kick me up the backside and get me to make it all happen.....
