Last week, I transferred to Online Fixed Price Energy January 2016.
The monthly direct Debit is set to £55. Then the next day, the new Febuary fixed got announced!

Now, when I go into "Change My Tarrif", the new Febuary deal is calculating the direct debit at £76 and annually at £913.52.

That is an extra £21 direct debit per month.

How do i know if the January or Febuary deal is better? I can find little info on my existing January deal I am on in "My account".

Is there a side by side comparison I can do between January and Feb on the Scottish Power site to know which is the better deal for me?

It is not clear what the rates of my existing January deal are or where to find them on the Scottish Power site either?

Bit lost! Thanks for your help.
(note - I am on dual fuel, located in Area 16, Norweb area if that helps).

You can log on and click on " tariff label" ... Input your details and you can find the prices for the Jan 2016.

I'm not 100% but I think online Feb 2016 is supposed to be cheaper for everybody.

I know the monthly DD can go up if you change tariff about 16 days before your Dr comes out.... In which case I think they miss the first DD and spread the cost over the rest of them (from what I can gather, anyway)

But I'm not sure why it would jump up so much. Try it again, log in and click on change my tariff. See what the quote says. When you click to proceed it can jump up if your account is already in debt. So maybe its this? This is what happened to me... So I paid the debt off in full so that I would have the lower DD.

The Feb deal worked out somewhat cheaper for me. Double check you are selecting online fixed price energy February 2016..... I think there are a few other with similar names that are a bit more expensive.

@Mr_Mitch - I am £272 in credit on my account. So still unsure why it would go up from £55 to £76 direct debit. Could be that it skips a month like u say because my last Direct Debit happened on 2nd Jan 2015 so they miss the 2nd Feb 2015? Also, I've been back into the site a few times but the DD stays at £76.

I confirm I am selecting : Online Fixed Price Energy February 2016

Prices Feb v Jan fixed tarrifs:
    Gas - £487 v £522
    Elec - £432 v £437

So I save £40 by transferring from the Jan to the Feb fixed but my direct debit goes up £21 ! Unsure what to do ?!?

Just ring them and say you want to set your DD to the original amount. Be firm and point out your hefty credit balance, and they will do what you say. They may try to put you off doing this but do not take no for an answer.

I always phone to change tariff (rather than do it online) as their system tries to put my DD up every time! I have switched tariff with Scottish Power four times and every time it happens. This is normal with most energy companies though.

Also ensure your your latest meter reading is up to date. You want to be sure you are in a true credit balance.
  • thanks everybody - I have rang them, switched over to Feb 2016. Gave them my latest meter readings. They changed the DD to £62 which is £7 quid up ...but I had used some energy since I transferred to the Jan fixed last week so I thought it was OK.

    Thanks for your advise
