Wouldn't care... Indeed, assuming the murderer was caught, the chances of a second unrelated murder within the same walls would be infinitesimal.

In fact, I could start a new trend, selling houses at inflated prices "pre-murdered for your security"....

The fact that someone had been murdered in the property would not put me off, but if it was notorious I would be put off, whether the notoriety was due to a murder, or for any other reason.

  • Just wait until you are alone in the house listening to the wind whistling when suddenly a dog barks madly. You think you hear a creak on the stairs and there's a sudden chill in the air...

Back in the '80s, a man quite close to where I used to live murdered his entire family, including the new baby, then shot himself, just after getting home from mass one Sunday. The house is still empty.

To be honest - yes probably ... I'm a wuss
  • Would it put you off? I know it shouldn't really and a house is a house, but honestly, would you be put off buying a house if you knew that someone had been murdered in it?

By asking the question you reveal that it matters to YOU. No-one else's opinion counts. Buy a different place.

  • It would put me off. We have always bought period properties and accept that throughout the years there will undoubdtedly have been more than one death there, but a murder is a whole different ball game imho.

A few years back a family (and their dog) were murdered by the ex-boyfriend of the uni student daughter in a house round the corner from our then home. The place was renovated and sold and afaik the buyers were unaware of the house's history.

I've mentioned this before, but we later sold our house to someone that had been convicted of murdering a child. We met him on several occasions and were both rather unnerved by his chilling demeanor. That was bad enough, but to have bought his house would have been a massive no-no :(

Like others have said, depends how much publicity it had gained.

Although to be honest I'd probably be far more put off if the house was a renowned brothel or bondage dungeon than a murder had occurred.

16 Wardle brook avenue was demolished. Why didnt they sell it?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

It would put me off it were a recent murder, within the past few decades. If it were so long ago that no one related to the victims or the murderer were still alive, maybe I could be pragmatic about it.

There are houses all over London – all over the country – with similarly tragic histories. You might be reading this in one right now. The difference is, we knew about it. Most people don’t.
