Shouldn't have to keep justifying yourself, just say "No, sorry not convenient, I have plans/busy" Then change the subject. If they still keep asking then just pretend you can't hear them and cut the conversation short.

Just say no.. do not add any excuse, they asked and you replied.
You do not have to give a reason or excuse
Trust me people will get used to this and respect you for it

  • Why not just tell the truth?
  • Imagine asking that question - how blooming rude! If I asked someone if I could visit and they said they were busy my response would be "Oh that's a shame. Next time, yeah?" I would never ask them why.

If you tell people a reason why they will try to find a solution or a way around that reason. Just say no repeatedly until they give up.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Say "oh what a shame, we just can't manage it that day. Let's arrange another day, (say which day) "

Suggest that you make arrangements to meet up the next time they are in the area.

That's it, no further explanation needed. Who are they to prioritise YOUR plans ?

Good luck - manage it once and you'll feel so pleased - you won't be able to hold back after that !

Our sole purpose in life is not to make life easier for other people

Which is a shame. Because wouldn't the world be a much better place if it was?

Edit - I just remembered where I heard that -
"Our prime purpose in this life is to help others" - Dalai Lama XIV

Yes, providing it's not too inconvenient for you. My oh can't say no either, but I can, so it works well. :D

'Helping others' doesn't mean being at their beck and call whenever suits them, regardless of any plans you have made.
