Pot calling the kettle here :-)

Your absolutely groundless assumption that it was luck. Having the ability to cap charges is only one of the factors one should consider when choosing a service provider.
    So,
    • When choosing Tesco did you know that it was a rare provider offering capping? - Yes/No
    • When giving your advice "to setup a limit with your service provider" did you know that most providers didn't offer capping and that your provider was rather an exception than a rule? - Yes/No
... and another absolutely groundless assumption by you
It wasn't an assumption. I named 2 I knew out of 3. Does this make any difference if it's 3, not 2, out of ~40? What really matters is that all remaining providers (at least 7 offering contracts) don't offer capping and you can't "call them and setup a limit"

Well, you are lucky to have Tesco Mobile as your provider. They are the only* provider offering capping..
As you later admitted, this was incorrect.

.Thanks for this. Good to know. That makes three in total out of 2-3 dozens...
    Once again this is incorrect

I know of four who provide this service and four who do not. T Mobile, Tesco, Utility Warehouse and Three / O2, Vodafone, EE and Orange respectively.

LOL...... Can you list those, as it would seem you are prone to exaggeration?

    Really?
I just rightfully and politely corrected you. The continuation was an argument with MillicentBystander, not with you.

    You started the war.

I am still waiting for simple answers to my simple questions, especially the second one.
As you later admitted, this was incorrect.

"Incorrect" isn't a synonym of "assumption".
I know of four who provide this service and four who do not. T Mobile, Tesco, Utility Warehouse and Three
Did you know this when posting your advice to "Set a limit with your service provider"?

    And any facts for T-Mobile?
/ O2, Vodafone, EE and Orange respectively.
Talkmobile, TalkTalk Mobile, Virgin Mobile, TPO.
LOL...... Can you list those, as it would seem you are prone to exaggeration?
No, I CBA as there are many ready available lists, e.g. http://mobilenetworkcomparison.org.uk/compare/

In this list some are dead, but some are missing.
And I did clarify later that at least 7 out of ~40 offered contracts as capping was relevant for contracts only.

Where do you get the idea T-Mobile offer capped contracts? The only capped contract I am aware they offered was called U-Fix and it has been discontinued for years.

I just rightfully and politely corrected you. The continuation was an argument with MillicentBystander, not with you. It seems you want to argue with everyone.

You started the war. This is another incorrect statement. I refer to your repeated accusations that I had done no research and I was merely "lucky" in my choice of provider.

I am still waiting for simple answers to my simple questions, especially the second one. I have answered your questions. To clarify once again, I did my research as did several other posters on this thread.
"Incorrect" isn't a synonym of "assumption". Don't be facetious. Your comments were "incorrect" AND based on your glib "assumptions"
Did you know this when posting your advice to "Set a limit with your service provider"? Yes

No, I CBA as there are many ready available lists, e.g. http://mobilenetworkcomparison.org.uk/compare/ What relevance does this list have? Do you know who has compiled this data? Is it reliable? Has it been revised since it was posted in 2011?
In this list some are dead, but some are missing.
And I did clarify later that at least 7 out of ~40 offered contracts as capping was relevant for contracts only. Do you have difficulty reading? There is a clue in the web address Compare PAYG mobile networks and it clearly states "We reckon we’ve got all the information for every single UK PAYG network"

    In summary:
There are at least 4 mobile phone monthly contract service providers who currently or in the past have offered a capping service.
There are not "2 - 3 dozen" mobile phone monthly contract service providers in the UK.

It's even easier to put a sim lock on your phone and use a sim lock, as I always have. I don't lose sleep over huge bills on a stolen phone because I don't have to - or pay for insurance. I also currently operate 9 contracts.

Can you explain this for me, how do I put a sim lock on a phone?

FYI: T Mobile U-Fix was re-branded as You Fix in 2011. This plan is currently available from EE, see here > http://ee.co.uk/help/add-ons-benefits-and-plans/price-plans-and-costs/t-mobile-price-plans/price-plan-brochures/you-fix-price-plan-brochures

I have a £30 buffer on three - I know it works as it caught me out when abroad dealing with an emergency.

I can't believe that you keep missing the point.

If missile really planned this and selected Tesco Mobile because they offered capping unlike the majority of providers, then he wouldn't suggest that it was simply a matter of "setting a limit with your (=any) service provider".

He was lucky to get Tesco Mobile as a provider without realising that it was a rare provider offering capping.

    Nope. Just luck.
