I'm still not understanding the facts here. The Three site is very confusing.

My question is: If I'm on a 1 month plan and have 1GB of data, what happens if I reach that limit?

    People have said:

it goes over and starts charging extra per minute
it just stops working and you have to wait until the next month
and it stops working but you can add on extra

From that Three guide it suggests that you can only add on an extra 1GB 'personal hotspot' of data (for £5) but only if you have an 'all you can eat' data plan and have used up your personal hotspot inclusive allowance.

This wouldn't apply to me as I'm not going for a 'all you can eat' data plan.. plus I have no idea what a personal hotspot is, it does sound painful though.

That guide also mentions that you can 'choose to block any out of bundle spending' - which sounds like a good idea but it doesn't give you any idea how you do that..?

The problem is that your previous data has been "rubbish" and therefore you didn't use much. It only takes an interesting YouTube video, wanting to catch up a TV program, listening to internet radio on your phone, and you've hit your limit. If you mostly use your phone for data while at home with WiFi, then a low data plan may suffice.

My OH didn't have data on her old phone, with an iPhone she's discovered that internet radio works a whole lot better in her office than FM or DAB... And listens to it all day long. In the past 7 days I've used 3.7 GB on my iPhone, mostly viewing YouTube reviews of a product I've recently bought and some Skype. We both have unlimited data on Three.

So, IMHO I would consider a higher data use plan to future proof your possible use.

My highest previous data usage was less than 600mb per month so 1GB could well be fine, even if I used some more data. It seems like trying 1GB for a month or two at first, and if I'm repeatedly going over then move to a higher amount..

I've just had it confirmed that you won't be charged when you hit your data limit. The data just stops and you have the option to buy more.

This applies to plans taken out from June/July 2014.

I'm talking about SIM Only plans which came out in July I think.

OP is talking about sim only as well.

Also that article is from 2012. The plans in that article have been discontinued.
