That is the risk YOU took when you signed up to a fix with an exit fee.

You were free to choose another tariff that was safer.
Might be worth checking with E-On. Scottish Power used to (maybe they still do), waive the exit fee if you switch to another of their tariffs, they only charged the exit fee if you switched supplier.

I used to hop along the E.On FixOnline tariffs quite merrily,
switching penalty free, don't know about now.

I'm doing the same thing with Scottish Power tariffs, but they are penalty free anyway.

It's pretty obvious tariffs will keep falling for a while, so there is no need to pay any exit penalty now, because you will want to switch again in a few months. If you can switch to something cheaper penalty free, you will save enough in the rest of this winter to pay for an exit penalty.

Why are you doing this now rather than five weeks ago?

Because it says I have to pay a £5 charge on gas and a £5 charge on electricity if I change before 17th January.

a mere 3.5% and even then its only on their standard tariffs, considering how much its fell over the past year, its hardly a saving, as I would presume most people are on 1 year fixed deals anyway,

for those still on standard tariffs arnt really saving at all as they pay the highest prices anyway.

Penalty free? If this is the case then I don't need to wait until the 17th January when my year is up. Why is it all so confusing? :o

I'm with E.ON on a fixed price tariff and I only have to pay an exit fee if I leave E.ON, not if I move to another E.ON fix. I've gone online and moved to their cheap fix today with no penalty :)

Check out E.On's own Fixed 1 Year v14, which should have been the headline in the first place.

It is over £200 cheaper than the standard tariff, naturally, but it is also £70 cheaper than the MSE collective switch!

This is funny. It would appear that E.On bought its own customers for £30 cash back, plus whatever commission to MSE, and now these customers will swamp the call centre to switch to Fixed 1 Year v14. If E.On says you can't switch because you were bought and paid for, there will be an uproar.

    Hi Pincher

Just thought I'd pop on and let you know, existing customers can switch to any of our other tariffs without penalty. There's no exit fees for switching tariff before the end date of a fixed agreement. Exit fees on fixed deals only come into play when changing supplier.

Also, for customers whose contracts are nearing the end, we'll send a renewal letter between 42 and 49 days before the completion date. If a customer on one of these tariffs decides to change supplier, we'll not charge an exit fee during this period.

    Hope this is of interest.

Don't watch it but Martin Lewis claimed on Twitter his money saving TV show on ITV crashed Co-op Energy website. Told people last week to switch to Co-op. Co-op will probably be left with costs now from cancelled switches. Might be worth a complaint to Ofcom as programmes are not meant to cause consumer detriment.

I remember similar in 2009. From MSE collective switch last year

MSE Big Winter Switch Event Winner 2: The cheapest LONG fix How it compares
(average price for typical dual fuel direct debit user)

Winner: Scottish Power fix till 31 December 2017. £1,099/year – £30/fuel exit fee
Next cheapest: First Utility fix till 31 January 2018. £1,136/year – £30/fuel exit
Typical cost: On a big six energy firm standard tariff: £1,180/year

My '1 year fixed rate' with EON ends on January 17th.

I now need to do some sums to see what is the best thing to do regards fixing again or taking a chance to see if the electricity will fall too. Oh well, I have a few days to suss it out (if indeed I can! )

    Hi socks_uk

I've just posted a reply to Pincher above that might be of help. From what you've said, I doubt any exit fees will apply to you.

There's no exit fees for changing to another E.ON tariff and you can do this at any time.

As your contract is coming to an end, we'll have sent you a renewal. This will have been between 42 and 49 days before the contract end date. During this period, you can change supplier without picking up an exit fee.

Also, if changing supplier whilst on a fixed deal, you can stay on the same prices for up to 20 working days after the contract ends. Provided, that is, it's cheaper for you.

    Hope this helps socks_uk.

We can switch exit fee free between E.on products even though it says there is an exit fee if we leave the current tariff? - interesting : will do so now!

    thanks
