Thanks the 20 has gone in but water rates haven't come out so I'm assuming they have tried but failed with it being - it is -19 now i think it could be because my partner took my card at the weekend and drew some money out, for some reason it has not showed up until last night, he did tell me but not how much so that's where the confusion has come from, I do think it's bad of the bank though, I will defiantly be more careful in the future, thanks to all the helpful people I do appreciate it :)

You should not be disclosing your pin number to anyone or lending your card to your partner. I'm not trying to have a pop but it breaches the T&C's of your account.

Maybe if your partner needs money from your account again then transfer it online to their account. This would also help with the initial problem as the available balance would have accounted for this FP.

  • I'm not clued up on how banks and overdrafts work ill admit that, when wages go in I check the bank to check they are right, and that's about it as I know exactly what direct debits come out and I know then how much I have and can spend hence why it's never happend before, I have always thought (obviously thought wrong) that available balance was actually available. I know for next time now so thanks, when I said £6 wasn't bad I didn't mean it was cheap and I don't mind paying it I just thought it was around £12 a day, I will be ringing the bank to see if they will let me off just this once, thanks all for advice once again, I know now and will be more careful in the future.

You may want to change the title of the thread to:

How can I better track my finances so that I do not accrue charges?

    Or

Is it against the T&Cs of bank accounts to disclose my pin number to a third party and allow them (without my knowledge) to withdraw cash?
  • Must say this is probably one of the most Unfriendliest forums I have ever posted in, thanks to all the people who have given me good advice and taken time to explain to me but the last sarcastic comment and a couple of the others are uncalled for.

Have rang them and they said as other people on here told me that the available balance doesn't always update straight away, with it being my first time they won't charge me. I will defiantly be more careful in the future, thanks again for all helpful advice :)

The OP didn't have an overdraft, so their available balance didn't include any overdraft.

That's not what the OP suggests.

    There is no trickery involved.

There is obviously trickery involved if only by making it unclear on purpose where the actual funds stop and where the overdraft starts.

    Hilarious :D

I'm wondering when the FCA will start providing crystal balls for banks to use so they know what payments a customer has pending.

There's only one party in these transactions that should know what the correct available balance is - it isn't then bank by the way ;)
