*niptuckfan* wrote: »i know this is all about improving on your own spends, but was wondering if anyone else in this challenge has similar family to me? 2 adults, part time child, dog - and what their monthly spend is?
We are a family of two adults who I cook all meals for plus any snacks etc and then I cook a main meal for my elderly mum (who has dementia) at least 4 times a week. She will eat large meals (probably larger than us really as long as its done for her as she no longer cooks herself but on the days I don’t cook she will make a sandwich, do oven chips or at a push grill a bit of sausage or bacon) Our monthly budget has recently been £200 for a 4 week month and £250 for a 5 week month, however from July I aim to increase this to £250 per month regardless of number of weeks as due to illness I have to eat far more protein than before and its more expensive for us as I do not like meat substitutes, pulses etc so extra protein is from meat, fish, eggs and nuts mainly) Both of us eat tons of fresh fruit & veg and we get through 2 x 4litres of milk occasional a little more. School holidays I also feed at least 2 grand children at least once a week - big eaters. No pets to feed. Our budget includes all toiletries, soft drinks and cleaning items. Good luck for when you join us.
Have spent £42.63 today so only have £5.46 left and need a few items on Saturday so will be certainly over budget.
Tonight we are having pork steaks, mushrooms, onions, new potatoes and salad.MARCH £62.38/2500 -
Thanks Billie -Jo
This shows to me I can definitely reduce my spend by being more mindful. I get paid tomorrow and going to set myself a 4 week challenge that will get me to the weekend before we go off for a family holiday. I will track all spends from tomorrow and will plan round what I have in ( do have a very well stocked storecupboard) so really it will just be fresh bits wont need to be buying in the essentials like pasta rice etc0 -

weekly shopping lists from the plan
staying out of the shops inbetween
Had another NSD today. We had salmon tails (freezer), croquette potatoes (freezer) steamed asparagus and hollandaise sauce for dinner today.
Need to go to the shops the morrow for the f&v, milk and pack-up stuff but hoping to stay in budget.
Hope you all have a super Saturday

Ive got 16p left to last til Weds, so doubt I am going to make it, as since daughter finished college, she's eating more bread and having brew and drinks of milk. So.things are running out quicker than normal. Think July and August will be tough months. Feel like I will never whittle things down to a reasonable amount, instead it's gradually creeping up. I added extra on this month for an easiyo shop aswell, that's not yet materialised.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £76.30/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. One person vegan household with occasional visitors)Forever learning the art of frugality0

Well I'm declaring an overspend of £18.31
I went to the highland show on the weekend and got 2 £10 off wys £50 at LIDL vouchers that expire on Tuesday so I did a bit of stocking up and used both. It took me over budget but hopefully it will save me money over the next month which I thought was more important than missing out. I also got my first three yellow stickers yay! I got a pack of frying steak for £2, 3 BBQ pork chops for £2.09 and a pack of chicken drumsticks for £1.50. All went right in the freezer so I can meal plan properly! I did get a treat when oh brought me home a large cater pack of Serrano ham and 5 corn fed chicken supremes but we roasted them and had one each instead of me using them in a stew or casserole and splitting one between two. They were free so we enjoyed them even more haha!
Looking forward to the July challenge already, Wednesday will be my next shop so this is me signing off for June! Thanks for welcoming me on my first month Trying to fix my finances whilst living with 3 kids and 2 cats! 👩🏻👧🏻👦🏻👶🏼🐱🐱
January Grocery Challenge (starting 31/12) £0/£3500 -
Went over budget today by £5.45 and still a few days to go. Feeding 4 extra people tomorrow so that accounts for the extra spend (well some of it) I hope to get to A$da tomorrow just to pick up some of the Belvita bars as they are on offer. Never tried them but my son says if I don't like them he does so they will not be wasted. That should be all I buy there but you never know.
We had some salmon out of the freezer tonight for tea and although it got eaten we weren't that keen on it so its possibly been in a bit to long and thank fully there is only one small piece left which will go in a fish pie with other fish one day.MARCH £62.38/2500 -
Hiya everyone :hello:
