I've blown my unofficial 'money spent in shops' budget for the month, and am close to blowing my unofficial 'total budget' too.

But I'm not far off track against my official budget (only a couple of ££s over where I should be by today), so it's not tooooo bad ;)

It's a trip to Costc0 that's blown things. They had beef mince and lamb steaks on offer, both of which I wanted. And when I got here they'd also introduced an offer on pork loin steaks today - something else I was watching for coming on offer as I've only 1 left in the freezer.

    Picked up
    • 2 trays of lamb steaks (14 in total, so one meal for 2 every month from now to year end - this is one of my 'treat' meals :))
    • 2 trays of pork steaks (15 in total, so I now have 16 - gives me one meal a month, with 2 of those being at a weekend when I feed OH as well - not as major a treat, but still a special)
    • 1 tray of mince (with the last of my previous and a couple of Whoopised packs I picked up in Mr M last week I should have enough for one mince based meal a week until the end of the year - or almost enough, depends on how many nights a week DS1 wants me to ccok for him instead of taking in ready meals once he starts his new job a week on Monday)
That lot's cost me £43.51 from my grocery budget (close to 18% of my official budget for June ), but it's a good chunk of the meat I needed for the rest of 2015. I've got loads of sausages, bacon and fish in my freezers already, and some breaded chicken (fillets, goujons and kievs) too. But I still need unbreaded chicken (breast fillets, probably thighs, and maybe some portions for casserole) and possibly some stewing / braising beef.

I also took a good look at the MuscleF00d offer on Gr0upon. I'd originally written it off because it would only save me a few ££s compared to where I'd normally buy the items in it - and some of them weren't things I'd normally buy. But then I got an email from Group0n offering me 20% off a purchase, so I took another look and decided to go for it - only to be informed on the checkout page that the code didn't work on that deal. So I'm not bothering after all......

hi folks, i will be joining you come the new challenge in july. i pride myself on being a long standing mser and pretty good in the grocery dept, i menu plan, cook from scratch, take my lunch to work, have 2 freezers, use money supermarket & cashback grocery apps and take advantage of reduced items, i have recently changed the way we deal with our joint finances and its made made me realize a bit more how much i am spending, i tend to shop daily/every few days rather than big shops and i have a well stocked store cupboard. i have just added up my grocery spend so far since 29 May and i at £268 with still a week to go- for 2 adults, part time child (oh child at weekend) and one dog, i am in lucky position that we both work and oh does have some expensive tastes (brand snob lol) but i think this can be improved on

i know this is all about improving on your own spends, but was wondering if anyone else in this challenge has similar family to me? 2 adults, part time child, dog - and what their monthly spend is?

Spent a lot in Ts last night, we've done a few weeks of small shops so it was all the things I can't get in the little shop I sue that we'd run out of and needed. £20 was beer and wine so I won't count that as its a different pot.

  • haven't been on here for a while so I will try to recap the best I can.

We have had an awful week and a half and we have blown our budget considerably. Last week we spent £32.46 on a weekly shop and then at the weekend we spent £38.56 :O on a weekly shop. To make things worse we then had to go out again yesterday as we had run out of wraps for lunches and butter, but due to OH wandering eye we spent £19.22. :(
This means we have now spent £191.21. This may be due to the night out with food, but I think we need to make sure we make stricter lists and keep to them next month.

    Oh well.
