February 2015 Grocery Challenge
Comments

Good morning.
Well, just had a reasonably big spend on cat supplies (new litter tray and the like). That won't come out of the my grocery budget (although it could, considering we're doing okay this month).
Someone reminded me I need a new Sainsburys delivery pass. I used it a lot last year and saved more than the cost of it. This year, with me having a baby, I reckon it could be even more valuable. So that will be £60 as I go for the full week one rather than mid week. I'm unsure whether to take this out of my grocery budget or not.....I'll pay for it otherwise and then see where we are for the month. How long til pay day?

Thank you to all that help with this thread. It really does help.
Good thoughts to those going through tough times. Hope things get better.
Those that are unwell I hope you get better soon. This winter has been bad for illness it seems. I'm still not 100% but better than I was (before I was throwing up, fever, the works really. So not good).2 adults groceries: June £35.79/£200

Just made/eaten a delicious aubergine and mushroom curry with veg rice.
Plan is a no spend week until a cooked breakfast on friday.
Stuffed myself silly for lunch, and made four tubs of curry to have for lunches at work (sans rice).
I need to make overnight oats today - yogurt already made in the fridge, so just need to assemble 4 tubs.
Dinners this week are planned to be (in no particular order):- mackerel, cottage cheese, baked sweet potato, green beans
- roasted sweet potato chunks, baked chilli beans, cottage cheese
- eggs, spinach, mushroom, roasted butternut squash, maybe with baked beans
- butternut squash, tomato, mushroom, peppers, chickpeas (tagine)
- pizza or calzone with whatever leftovers I've got knocking about (dough in freezer)
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I would very much to join this challenge
I joined the board some years ago and have been an avid reader but hardly every posted - as from this month I will be using the board to garner ideas and make as many savings as I can
we had a huge change in our lives recently which is costly - all through no fault of ours but something I feel I should support even if part of me wants to say your problem and tough (cant you tell I am a mother)
we are a family of 2 adults (children left home) and 6 dogs, five of which are rescue and one an indulgence - the dogs have their own budget so the budget I am setting is for all food for two adults and including toiletries and household cleaners
Now I need to admit that I have no idea how much I spend at present - I know that is no way for me to shop - but if I want it I get it as we can afford it - but I want to save for two things this year - a holiday in norfolk as my best friens daughter is having a baby - and my husband wishes to buy me new rings as we will be married 35 years come May and I have never had the sort of rings he wanted to buy me - I had the cheapest available but I loved them anyway. I will be cooking from scratch about from one ready meal a month as a treat (hubbys choice) as we are going to not eat out for a few months
all the money I save on shopping will go towards my time away and will put saved into a separate account.
this month I will be shopping as usual just to see what I do spend in a month
I have done one big shop (all meat house cleaning stuff - loo rolls etc) and one smaller shop totally £145 so far - I would like to set a possible target of £150 for the rest of the monthEmergency fund £10,000
Several categories with savings in
Cars, house maintenance, birthdays
Etc I have about 10 categories
Really happy to be debt free after being a compulsive spender0 -
Well today I didn't spend anything on groceries, but OH and I met some friends in town, had lunch and sat in a coffee shop, so spent a few pennies, but we don't see them very often so I've forgiven myself :A :rotfl:Make £5 a day in August£21.54/£155
